53Fan 08-29-2009, 10:06 PM 1) our offense scored 24 points, their offense scored 20. Their defense scored 7. I think it is justifiable to say that 7 points could be viewed as the swing in the game. Especially if you add in the fact that if the int had not been thrown, we would have most likely scored at least 3 (giving our offense 27 and theirs 20)).
2) This was the first game where Mason impressed me. He held his own against the first string, and on JC's TD run he had, what I thought was a nice chip block on a penetrating defender. Add that to DT's KR's and I might be going over to the dark side of calling for keeping Mason, and letting Rock go. Mea culpa.
I'm leaning that way myself. Mason has stepped his game up and if it came down to it I would rather have him in the offense than Cartwright. DT probably has more big play potential than Cartwright and did a good job in his first game returning KO's.
DCborn 08-29-2009, 10:19 PM Skins looked good , However, they still need to grow some teeth and end a game when they are inside of 2 minutes. The plays called in the last procession was lacking. Three runs at the middle and punt. Throw one deep or across the middle. Why not go for the win inside of 2 minutes?

GMScud 08-29-2009, 10:36 PM just getting back into country and catching up on last 2 games. After watching 2nd game first it sure was a relief to see JC pick it up in the 3rd game.I thought he had some great throws, some almost great throws and made good descisions, makes me more optimistic going into the season.
But Matty,I gotta call you out on that statement,I think you had been drinking and giddy from JC playing so well:laughing2
If your going to say" Dude showed me tonight that he can flat out play"after a preseason game, how would that be different than me or someone else saying"after his first 2 preseason games,"Dude showed me he aint worth a crap"?
jason had a good game and redskin nation is thankful and feeling a lot better now, keep it up Jason.
I also loved zorns playcalling,It was like Jason said, that dink and dunk stuff is for the birds.
Man I hope D Hall picks it up when season starts, that was just pathetic, pass rush is still not looking that great to me.
I too would like to see more of Aldridge, guys a burner.I know Portis likes to save it for the reg season so Im not that concerned, but he looks terrible
I agree totally with the statement in bold. I said something along the same lines right here (http://www.thewarpath.net/redskins-locker-room/31520-redskins-performance-tonight-will-considered-failure-3.html#post580942).
The door swings both ways. Saying Jason can "flat out play" based on 1 half of a preseason game is on par with saying he isn't capable of leading the Skins based on his poor play in his first two appearances this year.
Can't really dismiss his poor play as "just the preseason," and then turn around and praise him for good play in that same preseason.
Whether or not the outcome of the game matters, his first two games this year worried and frustrated me, and last night's game was a nice change. He played well.

Different circumstances my friend. In the first 2 games he barely played, 13 passes over 2 games makes it kinda hard, and frankly a bit unfair to draw any hard conclusions about his play. Last night he finally had the chance to get into the flow of the game and with 22 attempts in 2+ quarters I think we got a much better idea of what he's capable of, along with the rest of the offense for that matter.

I get what you're saying. Plenty of folks around here were throwing him under the bus after the Balt and Pitt games. I totally agree that it's foolish to condemn him based on those two brief appearances.
Last night he played solid but unspectacular. His performance definitely made me feel better about what he's capable of, but I'm not drawing any decisive conclusions from it. It was one half of one preseason game. Saying that he can flat out play based on a game where he didn't even throw a TD is a bit of a stretch IMO. It did however show he's not nearly as bad as a lot of Warpathers think. If you can extrapolate that kind of performance out over an entire season, I think we'll have ourselves a very solid quarterback.
DBUCHANON101 08-29-2009, 11:44 PM If I'm correct that int he threw (3rd one in three games and I believe the second in the red zone) was a 14 point swing or atleast a 10 point swing so yes Colt lost the game.
Yeah lets not bring up Green-Ellis doing whatever he wanted to our run D in the 2nd half. the numerous penalties that killed drives, the lack of pass protection by the backup Oline, the big return allowed towards the end while the ST has been horrid on coverage the whole preseason. And a 50 yd fg used to be a big deal 10 yrs ago now its the standard by which the good kickers are rated. Wide Left.
its all on perception. if we were driving in the final min and he throws the pick 6 then yes he lost it. but that was in the 3rd. If we were driving for a win and he throws a pass to get us within the 50yds as time is running out and the FG sailed wide you would want the kickers head on a stick. He threw the pick then he threw a td so its even. ST allows the returner to catch the ball on his side of the 50 and return it to the mid 20's i believe as he dragged our player for about the last 5 yds.Again, to put it on ONE man is just a lame excuse when the team as a whole didnt do very well in the 2nd.

You are correct about the other failings of the team.
It is also true that Colt's foolish throw cost us 7-14 points. The foolish sack he took may have cost us another three points. All of this in a game which was won by three points.

your right about the circumstances and drawing any conclusions from the first 2 games, but you can also say the same thing about the 3rd game. Were not evaluating a rookie, weve had 3 yrs of Jason and to say from 1 preseason game you cant suddenly anoit greatness.{thats not exactly what your saying, but I think you know what I mean}We know JC can play, hes shown flashes of it,but the same thing could be said for a lot of qbs,I just think you got a little too excited about 1 preseason game, thats all I'm saying, and on the same token some people get too excited about his poor play in preseason,I dont think you can base any hard conclusions from any of the first 3 games. That said,JC's last game does raise my spirits and gives me hope for the season.
Just shelled out the bucks for directtvs sunday ticket and superfan package,so I'll be able to see the games in houston, and JC's last performance gives me hope that I didnt waste my money

do you think if JC had thrown that INT, or taken a sack, we still would have been hearing about the other failings?
Obviously other areas need improved, but to say CBs didn't directly affect the outcome is a little disingenuous.

Im not sayin he was stellar but to say one man lost the game with everything else that happened is pretty harsh. yeah the sack hurt but its not like the kick was impossible. and like JZ said that is all sumed up to lack of experience.
