this is what happens when morons try to explain the wonders of pre-season. yes Marko looked incredible, but what would he do if he was in there with the first stringers? All of his action...or let's say a solid majority has been in the 2nd half when he is playing vs. watered down competition. Oh...and beating Carlos Rogers in practice doesn't count, Rogers is an awful corner.

I felt the real story about tonights game, was our lack of secondary play, minus Horton who I feel is going to emerge as a leader out here, Hall looked mediocre...certainly for the amount of money we are paying him, and I can't even remember the last time I saw Landry pop somebody. Seriously...I read an article prepping Landry to be the next Ed Reed...while that may sound crazy he could actually do it if people feared him. Like a certain someone who used to wear #21 out there.

Overall I was pleased, but i'd like our Offense to sustain drives and give our Defense a break, I feel the biggest reason we trailed off our success last year is our starting O not being able to give our D a good enough rest.

I liked what Phil Simms said about Zorn and Campbell:(paraphrasing from memory here) Zorn said he drew up new plays to take advantage of the fact Campbell has a big arm and can stretch the field with ease.

That may certainly be true considering the sudden coming of age with the wideouts.

Marko looked good sticking with the play and blocking downfield for Cooley's big catch and run. He tied up 2 guys and definitely was responsible for at least 20-25 yards of that YAC for Cooley. Consequently that play was with the first team. It made me happy to see him not just catching balls but contributing in other ways, he is definitely a keeper. Maybe this year's nice surprise like Horton was last year.

The fact that the receivers were consistently running wide open was one of my biggest takeaways from last night. Looks like Zorn might know what he's doing when it comes to the play calling and the receivers are doing a good job of route running. I'm sure Campbell will become more consistent with deeper passes as long as they keep dialing them up. Practice makes perfect.

Good call. Downfield blocking is something we haven't done a good job of, so it's good to see the rookie taking it seriously. Another reason size is such a plus at the WR position. Maybe he'll motivate the starters. Maybe we'll see some Portis bust some long runs as a result.

I do agree...it is nice to have not only 2 but now 3 legit young guy alll big guys that will be taking over the reigns.

I see it this way....MOSS #1, Marko Mitchell # 2....ARE in the slot... and the slacker #2's pissed off on the bench waiting for an opportunity.

I would love for Mitchell to get significant starter reps...is is likely?
No, but this guy brings it on game day...his touches are TDs....the guy is money...who give a crap...Cooley is Money...we love him, Santana is Money....what the freak?
Portis is amazing....Marko Mitchell seems to be a playmaker.
If I were Zorn, I'd line him up #2 in the last preseason game to see what he can do.

Devon Thomas made ok improvement, albeit slow and steady.
Malcolm Kelly, who had a leg up on #2, went backwards, missing a couple key receptions, one being a TD....however, his ability and progress has been steady.

The reality is this.
We wont see a significant improvement in passing game stats until mid season unless marko mitchell is engaged immediately within the final week of preseason...in my opinion

We officially have FIREPOWER! Pro-bowl caliber players - Sellers, Moss, Portis, Samuels, Cooley mixed in with our young talent - Kelly, Thomas, Mitchell, Davis. If Campbell plays like he did last night and Zorn stays aggressive with the play calling, this Offense should easily average 20 a game. We play some pansies in the first 6 games, so we'll know early on what kind of Offense we've got.

I will say it again, since I slammed Zorn mid-seaon last year.

Zorn adapted to Campbell strengths...deep ball, play action....I'd never thought I'd see it...it resulted in a 7-0 start....this aint no west-coast crap.

Now...I am skeptical that one preseason game adjustment means much considering he didn't adust at all last season but based on JC's comments on how thrilled he was to go deep on the Steelers last week....combined with the amazing deep success with Santana's acrobatic deep catch abilitiy plus enzone pass interference...hopefully Zorn gets it....
The redskins team is built for one thing....
Defense
Running
Deep passing play action.

Like it or not, this is a Gibbs squad.
We need to adjust the system to maximize the capabilities of our player.
Kudos to Jim Zorn for not trying to force a square peg through a round hole...
Nice adjustment MR Zorn!

you need to do more work Mr Blache.

I agree. They seemed to struggle when they went back to the short passing attack. 3rd and 3 doesn't mean you have to throw 4 yards to Moss, although he shouldn't have dropped that pass. I hope they gain enough confidence to go over the top once in a while when it's third and short (a la the Colts).
