Now that I think about it, I think maybe it was Wisconsin Avenue. Were there two on Wisconsin? One in Tenleytown, one in Friendship Heights
Shakeys bring back memories too of old birthday parties, and autographed Redskins placemats.
This thread is really going off track, isn't it
It was off track a long time ago.
BringBackJoeT 08-27-2009, 02:20 PM I grew up a stones throw from there, literally. I'm 31, and in my lifetime there hasn't been an Armand's in that location. I wish there was, though.
Coincidentally, there was a MotoPhoto right where you speak of that closed recently, and a pizza joint will be taking it's place very soon. Pretty stoked about that. I love that neighborhood. Basically anything you need is no more than a 5-10 minute walk away. Sherriff Gonna Getcha can attest to that. He's from around the way as well.
So am I, and this comes only a short while after the Avalon has started selling beer. The circle was already a great place to go, but it's getting even better.

I know, when I saw Star Trek a few months ago I was pleasantly surprised that I could have a cold one during the film. Great stuff.
SmootSmack 08-27-2009, 02:58 PM Yeah, there were two on Wisconsin. One in the heart of Tenleytown just past Nebraska Ave, and the other is further north up Wisconsin, kind of halfway between Friendship Heights and Tenley.
Hmmm, how can we tie this into the thread... Teddy used to love deep dish pizza??
My college roommate and I used to go to the Armands on campus (AU) quite a bit back in the day, and to this day I still remember him getting the same damn toppings every time-pineapple and ham. That's one of my strongest memories of him actually, that damn pineapple and ham pizza.
And when he died in combat a couple of years ago, one of the first people to call his mom to offer his condolences was Ted Kennedy.
That's the best I can do..
So are you referring to that little Avalon theater a couple of doors down from Citibank? Across from Wachovia?

Sorry to hear about your friend. That is a good tie in actually.
Yes, that is the Avalon we're talking about. The MotoPhoto that is turning into a pizza place is in between the Avalon and Citibank, a few doors down from Magruder's (which has an amazing beer selection).
SmootSmack 08-27-2009, 03:34 PM That's definitely an up and coming area. Should I ever move back, Lady SmootSmack and I are certainly considering that as an area to settle down in

It's actually been a great area for a while. Ever since I was a little kid there has always been a variety of restaurants/eateries, a movie theater, banks, shopping, schools, a library/community center, metro, grocery store, dry cleaners, park with baseball field/basketball/tennis, even a great fish market - all within easy walking distance. But I love that they are constantly improving things.
Have you seen Friendship Heights lately (the area right around the metro)? It looks nothing like it did 5 years ago. It's SUPER upscale now.

Oh yeah, FH used to be just Hechts and Clydes basically. And David Falk's offices. Now it's like Beverly Hills east. I think actually I heard something like only Manhattan has a higher rent per square foot
firstdown 08-31-2009, 11:33 AM So did anybody sit down and watch the any of the funeral yesterday? I switched over to catch a few minutes of the game last night and the network had his funeral on so I figured the game coverage was going to be delayed. Then the news person said they were switching from Kennedy's funeral over to NFL football. It was actually knd of rude the way they went about switching over to football.
