CRedskinsRule 08-25-2009, 08:18 AM I think Colt really blew it with that last interception Saturday. Maybe he is hearing all the criticism of JC about being too cautious, but you can't throw it into 4 deep coverage, especially in the redzone. I am sure Marko and Chase are the front runners for the training camp hero at this point, but both really looked poised.
Is this karma for mocking, hmmmm.
Chico23231 08-25-2009, 08:37 AM This is the right move, Collins is the best of the back ups by far. I really didnt think to much about Daniels when the Skins brought him in, but Im very satisfied with this FO move. Its great to push Colt with competition and Daniels has looked much better than I thought he would. I hope there is a way to keep both.
Daseal 08-25-2009, 08:43 AM I liked Chase in college, and he seems to be playing well in DC. I think this is truly going to come to the last game but that Colt has the inside track. I would much rather dump Collins and keep Colt and Chase.
mredskins 08-25-2009, 08:57 AM I feel horrible today. All my Raven friends are just loving on Flacco today and who do we have a bunch of nobodies.
You can argue over Campbell, Collins, Daniels, and Colt all you want but in the end we are just arguing over what piece of trash has a better shine. Unless Campbell has a second coming against the Pats I think we are in for a long year here in DC and eventually it will be the end of the Campbell/ Zorn era.
hooskins 08-25-2009, 09:02 AM Redskins Insider - Collins Gets Nod as Brennan, Daniel Battle (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/collins-gets-nod-at-backup-qb.html#more)
For the fourth consecutive season, Todd Collins will be the Redskins' backup quarterback, and Colt Brennan is in a battle (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/dcsportsbog/2009/08/chase_daniel_and_colt_brennan.html?wprss=dcsportsb og)with rookie Chase Daniel for the No. 3 job, Coach Jim Zorn said today after practice at Redskins Park.
I thought Zorn said this a couple weeks ago too, before preseason. In fact, I am positive he clearly said TC is number 2.
Only the media (national especially) mentioned this was an open battle. It never was.
hooskins 08-25-2009, 09:11 AM About Chase vs Colt, I pick Chase. This is not because Chase played great couple days ago. We all know Colt did great too last year. Both threw up good numbers in college too, but we all doubt the credibility of those numbers(Colt in a weak conference, and Chase in a spread offense). In many ways their situations are similar.
Furthermore, I think Colt's struggles are not because he sucked all the sudden. It's his second year in the system, and he knows more of the book. He is thinking more and trying to play the offense, which will initially cause errors. I expect the same dropoff in Chase's performance next year too.
In conclusion I think both QBs are very similar in potential, situation, college exp, etc. The reason I pick Chase is I think his throwing mechanics and skill may be better suiting for the NFL

Nope....Zorn said it was a competition for the #2 spot, Colt just played his way out of it. Colt had a great preseason last year, but he really has that "gunslinger" mentality, and the interceptions into double coverage gets old fast.
EDIT:washingtonpost.com (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/08/11/AR2009081103221.html)
I stand corrected he said "entering camp Collins was his backup", but Zorn left open the possibility someone else could win the job.
EARTHQUAKE2689 08-25-2009, 09:27 AM Not trying to nit pick but does anyone else find it weird that everyone calls him Chase Daniels instead of Chase Daniel?

Thanks, I guess it is a middle ground between what we said. It was not open but he hinted if TC sucked and CB wowed then a possibility of change.
I guess my point was it was never open as the media made it seem to be. It is more of a media spun/created story of this "great" qb competition.
Sean"Big Hurt"Taylor 08-25-2009, 09:48 AM I believe in Colt Brennan. I thought when the offseason began he would compete to be starter cause I thought Campbell would suck in the preseason which he has. Campbell will be a good quarterback just not in our offense (west coast offense). He is too big and is not mobile enough in the pocket although he can take off and run if he has too. Colt Brennan and Chase both move better from the center than Campbell and get to their release point quick. Their footwork seems to be much better than Campbell's. I was looking at the characteristics for the west coast offense and it said something like this: Quarterback--about 6'2 or 6'3 (Colt), quick release (Colt, Daniel), mobile(Colt, Daniel) and ability to make precise decisions and reads (Colt, Daniel). I just believe Colt has the edge simply because of his quicker release and height and he looks more like a west coast quarterback ( ala Rich Gannon) with the side arm release. That Gannon was not half bad.
