skinsfan69 08-24-2009, 07:52 PM Really? I mean I think Wynn won't make this team, but Daniels brings a lot to the table as a run-stopping DE, though it wouldn't surprise me if the season ends with Jarmon starting over him, and I think Carter can have career highs in sacks (so I guess that's like 15?) with AH and Griffin in the middle. I think either Wilson or Jackson gets a roster spot, not sure both will.
Carter was not double teamed at all last year and he still couldn't get to the QB. He doesn't have explosion or power coming off the edge. He only has one move and that's try and run around the tackle. Orakpo is about the same size as Carter and you can already see he is strong enough to bull rush a 300lb tackle and fast enough to run around him. Wynn and Daniels are just too slow and not athletic enough. I watched Daniels and he looks so slow out there. What the younger guys lose in experience and assignment responsibility they'll make up in some playmaking. I just think it's time to move on. It's a young man's game.

Only Monty drew double teams on our interior line, so when he wasn't in, Carter was getting a left tackle and a running back when applicable.
Jason Taylor was the one who was rarely double teamed, and even so, most of our one on ones came in blitz situations, which sort of defeats the purpose of the one on one pass rushing match-up.
I'd call Carter a "power" player because a majority of his moves are power moves, but the only really effective pass rushing move seems to be that speed rush. I'm not the biggest fan of speed rushers, but I think he does it pretty well.
GusFrerotte 08-24-2009, 10:12 PM JC plays at least a whole quarter to shake the rust off and get himself into a rhythm hopefully.
Brennan and Daniel split the rest of the time to see if Daniel is the real deal and to settle the #3 QB spot or at least get a clearer picture about it.
The kicker battle is almost a moot issue. Like Skins says, why care since you can't get the damn thing in the redzone anyway?
FRPLG 08-24-2009, 10:20 PM So here we are, the all-important 3rd preseason game is upon us. Suppose you were Zorn this week and had to plan for the game, how would you answer these questions?
1. How long do the starters play?
2. Who's the first QB off the bench?
3. Who's the second QB off the bench?
4. How would you manage the kicker battle?
1. 1st and a half...but it depends on flow. It'd be ncie to get the first guy of the bench in there against their starters....which means.....
2. Colt. He can't be as bad as he has been ater last year. Let him get some reps with a good line and some game planning and see what happens. At this point the biggest question that remains is him.
3. Daniel of course. Let him get a long look in the 2nd against the seconds.
4. Who knows... it depends on how much work they can get which depends on the offense being good enough but not too good.
DBUCHANON101 08-24-2009, 10:22 PM Well, if I understood right Zorn said today that Collins will be the #2. That he expected Colt to battle for that spot but Collins isn't giving it up.
So it really does look like Colt is battling to stay on the team. Crazy. Would've never imagined this so soon. We should trade Colt (quick, someone work out a trade plan) for a RT.
But anyway, I have this feeling that Zorn is kind of pissed at Colt. And maybe at himself in a way. Colt was supposed to be his guy, his pet project that he drafted and was going to develop.
I dont think Zorn is pissed at CB, he said in the first game vs Bal that the protection failed Colt. Vs the Steelers CB had a nice drive until the pick. CB has to learn to take what the defense gives and when in the redzone to take the 3 if the 6 isnt there.
It almost feels as if Zorn is giving up on Colt, or he's at least very close to it.

That would be a mistake. Chase was nice, but like the more levelheaded guys in here have said it is one game either way. Game #3 will be very interesting about how Colt responds and how Chase responds being the one that is 'hot" right now.
It's not like Zorn's opinion of Colt is based on one game though. He's been saying the same things going back to last year. Let's say this week Colt bombs again while Chase shines. I think there's a serious chance Chase wins the job. We'll see.
GTripp0012 08-24-2009, 11:28 PM If Chase continues to meet challenges and look like the pro prospect that people believe Brennan can be, I don't know how we can cut Daniel. This is more about Chase than Colt. My eyes tell me that Colt is perfectly capable of hanging around on an NFL roster and he can make a nice living doing so, but Chase is like 3-4 years younger and already sees a field as well if not better.
So if Chase isn't a fluke, I think he gets it. If he struggles in one of the last two preseason games, then you probably try to sneak him onto the practice squad and try him again next year.

I agree about Chase. He was a marquee college QB playing in the Big 12. He played great at very high level in the collegiate game. Sure Colt tore it up in the WAC, and his college career was impressive, but IMO he's no better of a prospect than Chase. May the best man win.
Boy oh boy, the PJ5 stuff would sure look silly should Chase make the team....
Maybe Cooley will let Colt live in his basement and the Cult of Colt can camp out on his property.
