Gotta love Blache's take:

"Their starters beat our starters - pure and simple," Redskins defensive coordinator Greg Blache said. "We didn't make any plays, they beat us on third down and we made poor decisions. Other than that, it was delightful."

We couldn't get off the field on third and long a few times--that reminds me of last year a little too much for my liking, but yeah, it's only preseason, I know.

The big issue for me right now is the failure of our DBs to cover the middle of the field well. Our safeties have to make that a place WRs fear. We also still seem to sag way off of WRs. With this D line, why not be a bit more aggressive in coverage?

I do like that the D is clearly not satisfied and expects to dominate. Let's crank it up, boys!

I guess our opponents will have to get used to our team taking out the opposing QB's on stretchers...

Dennis Dixon has a separated shoulder

Posted by Mike Florio on August 23, 2009 1:56 PM ET
Ben Roethlisberger isn't the only injured quarterback in Pittsburgh.

On Saturday night, backup Dennis Dixon was dinged up during Saturday night's preseason game against the Redskins.

Coach Mike Tomlin called Dixon's condition an "injury to the AC joint," which is the "glass-half-full" way of describing a separated shoulder.

The degree of the separation isn't known. As Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette points out, Roethlisberger suffered the same injury last year, but he missed no games.

The Dixon injury leaves the Steelers will only two healthy quarterbacks, for now -- Charlie Batch and Mike Reilly.

Some believe that Dixon could become the No. 2 man on the depth chart this year, possibly prompting the Steelers to sever ties with Batch, who missed all of the 2008 season with a broken collarbone.

Tomlin wouldn't say after the game whether Roethlisberger will return to practice on Monday. He suffered an Achilles' tendon injury on Thursday.

It must have been the Buzbee sack that separated his shoulder, as far as I can tell..
