Why are we in a no huddle offense, trying to audible every play, when the player's are all still unfamiliar with what their supposed to be doing, when we are playing an away game? I think that was a big mistake, Gibb's was being a little to cute for his own good on that one.

It keeps teams from making situational substituions and it alters the pace of the game. It may have been part of the simplifying idea this week. I don't know, I guess they were trying to shake things up. I don't recall it hurting us. Also, it gets us to the line quicker so you don't burn up the playclock.

I don't like it either. I think it is just causing our guys to be confused and make foolish penalties. However, I am not at the criticise Joe Gibbs stage yet and i don't know that I ever will be. He knows what he is doing. It's just going to take time. I know you can't always pin things on one person, but I firmly believe this team would be 3-1 without Portis's fumbles. All other mistakes as they were we still would have beaten NY & Cleveland without his costly fumbles that alwasy seem to happen at the worst time.

I believe the reason is excellent. To keep the crowd from getting into the game. The sound system and PA anouncer at the game did not have a chance to artifically pump up the crowd. The no huddle took tahat completly away.

I think that the no huddle offense was working pretty well at the beginning of the game, but later on there were a few problems with it which probably have to be dealt with. I think that the headphone malfunction may have had something to do with it, but I think that will be something that the coaches have to review. However, I think the no huddle offense really had the defense on their feet at the beginning of the game and the Redskins made some nice drives, they just weren't able to finish them.

I wish I could see tape of the game...do any of you know of any way to get that? (other than just recording the game on tv that is)

Call a play. Run it. Enough with all the shifts already! Defenses aren't shaking in their boots when we do because we're doing the same thing we did for the past couple of weeks! We need a new offensive coordinator. We have a conservative offense. And there's nothing wrong with that. But we need not be so predictable. Also, I would like to see Brunell take 'charge' of the offense in certain situations. When will some one step up and take command of what's going on offense? We have a few guys on defense who do just that.

that offensive coordinator you're talking about is Gibbs and Breux. not gonna happen.

if what Portis was saying after the game is true though, then we are being too predictable. maybe we should chill on the counter-treys and just do some counters. instead of hitches and comebacks, some more slants and posts. i don't know, something. it's broke right now. someone FIX IT.

offis, I agree with you. I was on the edge of my seat every time I saw Brunell attempting to call the play at the line. At times, it very much appeared that not all of the offensive players knew what the play was. Since we are still trying to get over making the silly mistakes, I think this strategy was ill-advised.

I just don't see doing something like this at an away game. They even did it near the goal lines, where the crowd noise is the highest.

Sorry, but this is the 2nd place I have read you advocate for a new Off. Coordinator and all I have to say is - YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!!
Who would you hire to replace Gibbs as a strategist?

The shifting serves a purpose - In part to determine what the defensive assignments are. For example: If the WR splits out and is followed by a CB, chances are it's a man defense. This, in turn, gives the QB, RB and HB their reads.

The general strategy and play calling have been fine (actually quite good - nice mix of run/pass, taking shots downfield and mixing in crossing and deep hooks w/ enough short stuff to keep people honest).

As for someone stepping up, someone will as soon as the players get more familiar with the schemes. I get the feeling that right now everyone is just focusing on making sure they get their assignments right and (b/c of snafus) making sure they stay on sides, don't fumble, get the play called in time, catch the ball, etc. Soon enough, an offensive leader or two will emerge.

I am deeply frustrated by the losses so far. I am one of those who let my expectations get ahead of me, but, as so many have pointed out in other threads, this has been a bad, undisciplined, "me-first" team since the Norv era. It takes some time to weed out the crap and instill some real team pride. Gibbs will be fine. His playcalling will be fine. He will find the players who will work for him and the offense will gell.

When will all this happen? Sometime this year I hope. It would be great to make the playoffs - but it may not happen.

Patience. All will be well.
