Next week (26th - 29th) I am going to a training course. Not sure what I will have for spare time but it looks like I will have Wedn., Thurs, and Friday night free.
Any suggestions for restaurants? music? Won't have any time during the day due to classes unfortunately.

Hit the gaslamp district. Good food, good times. That's all you need to know.

Well, my hotel is the Westin Gaslamp Quarter Hotel - so it sounds like I am in a good spot.

i lived in san diego from the beach to the city to the ghetto for years. paradise.
if your in the gaslamp then obviously your gonna walk around there a bunch. good food (the better local joints are in PB, OB, la jolla)
i would def recommend going to hotel del coronado (if your over 40) and "pacific beach" or PB if your under 40.
10 blocks or so north of the gaslamp is balboa park which is real pretty, cool to walk around and its all free (more of an older tourist local but i used to ride my bike thru there alot). the san diego zoo is right next to it too.
a great great golf course which is close to you is the coronado golf course. its only 25 bucks to walk 18 and half the holes are right on the bay with amazing views. the play is alil slow with old timers out there but its a real relaxing course were a hacker can feel welcome. i cracked 80 there, so did bill clinton except i heard he cheated a few times with moving his ball. also balboa golf course is close and cheap but its a much harder course than coronado.
do not go to old town, its just a replica western type town that sells t shirts and over priced margaritas. the tourists get channeled there as an attraction for some reason.

See if you can make it to Coronado Island and hit up the brewing company there... GOOD beer.

Oh I forgot about Kansas City Barbeque...not sure if it's still there. But it's where they shot Top Gun. It's towards the bottom of the gaslamp and to the left, I believe. Anyway, the food is excellent.

Yes, he comes to my starbucks all the time, but you have to come early, he's there around 5:15-5:45 most days. I am down in Del Mar...it's a VERY ritzy area of San Diego and I am a couple blocks from the beach.
Things cool to do in SD. Of course, Sea World is pretty cool...the SD Zoo is a MUST see as well. There is a really cool seal viewing in La Jolla...when it comes around to a few hours before sunset, the seals sun themselves on the beach...you can get within a few feet of them...they are ALL OVER the beach. It's quite a sight to behold.
The gaslamp quarter is absolutely a great place! You chose well! If you like mexican restaurants, go to Old Town...there are a ton of good restaurants there...touristy...also has good seafood. Of course, I'm a huge Dave and Busters fan...gotta try that if you have people to go with.
Gordon Birch Brewery has great beer and food...might want to try that.
If you do come by my starbucks, I'll hook you up with a beverage of your choice. My actual name is Joel. Although, my days off are always Thursdays and Fridays. So you'll have to get me on the other days. If you're interested in stopping by, PM me and I'll tell you my schedule.
Also, try not to break your neck here looking at all the hot women...seriously. Wear sunglasses, there are some absolutely beautful women out here...per capita, I have NEVER seen such a collection of amazing looking people. There is all sorts of things to do here.

Oh yeah...there is a really good comedy club on F street...I think it's called F Street Comedy Club...if it's not called that, they will know what you're talking about.
Ask your hotel for suggestions...also Rock Bottom brewery restaurant is really good too. Great beer...now that I think of it, it's better than Gordon Birch. Hot women there too! It's probably walking distance from your hotel. The Yardhouse is also a good brewery / restaurant.
Don't forget the Padres if they are playing in town...there is ALWAYS tickets to those events. LOL.
