[QUOTE=Slingin Sammy 33;574273]I'm comfortable with Rinehart (3rd Rd pick), Bridges at G (NFL starter) and Montgomery. However we are desparately thin at T. Samuels goes down and we have issues. However, how many teams in the NFL can lose a Pro Bowl LT and not have a serious drop-off. BTW, how'd the two starting Guards for the Bills (Levitre 2nd rd & Wood 1st rd) do last night....not so good. In the last couple of drafts all the impact players on the OL were gone when we had the opportunity to pick them and we got value for the guys we did pick up (F. Davis was a bit of a head scratcher, but he may turn into a solid contributor or be trade bait in the next year or two). We have plenty of "depth" at OL, we need quality. But how do you argue against taking Orakpo at 13?

You dont argue Orakpo at 13 at all. We are very lucky he slide to us and was the absolute right pick by the FO. Yes I agree we have crappy depth specifically at Tackle. Guard I dont feel as bad about. If Samuels goes down, I could see us sliding Heyers over to LT and bringing in Bridges at RT at this point. Bridge's versatility is why we brought him here, even though his better fit is guard. I know its early still in preseason, but everything right now states Big Mike Williams is a cut. Have heard positives surrounding Montgomery taking first team snaps with Rabauch out which is great. Showing improvement and stepping up is what we need to hear bout the O-line. Wow I did see the rookie guard play eluded to above the other night. Levitre indirectly caused Edwards first pick, when Edwards couldnt step into his throw because the rookie guard was getting stood up and pushed backwards by a back up defensive tackle...that is not good, but very Buffalo Bill-like.

As good as our defense looks, our offensive line scares the living shit out of me. I don't mean to preach to the choir or beat a dead horse, but it blows my mind how little focus has been given to the o-line by our front office. It seems like somebody is counting on Joe Bugle to turn every non-drafted offensive lineman from the University of Maryland into an NFL caliber player.....great strategy. Is anybody seriously comfortable with anyone from the second unit and third o-line units getting anywhere near the field during the regular season? Do Cody Glenn and Robert Henson have any chance of making this team? There weren't any offensive lineman worthy of being picked instead of them?

I know what you mean about beating a dead horse; I kinda feel the same way when I re-hash why (I believe) the FO did what it could to fortify the line. Our starting line was able to handle the division opponents and the lesser competition of the first 8 weeks last year, it was only once Samuels went down, and we faced truly elite defenses (a bad combination even with the best backups) that our line play truly stunk it up. The FO basically swept out our backups - who were useless, and replaced them with younger backups who we are now relying upon. Will the strategy work, we are almost ready to find out. Personally I am hoping our 1st line will rest out the Baltimore game to give the backups a real taste of NFL D's (at full game speed)

As to the Glenn and Henson picks, if any OL picked between those two spots turns in to a high caliber backup Left Tackle (our largest need) then ok, the FO blew it. I don't think that will be the case, and I expect both players were drafted to bring youth and aggression to the special teams. Something you would not find if we had used either of those picks on an O-line guy.

The Skins fan base is so used to seeing Snyder throw money to solve a problem (and then complaining about it after he does), that it is really hard for us to wrap our minds around the fact that there may not have been a one stop - throw money and get the quality player we all look for. So when the FO doesn't do the splashy move (like getting Buffalo's tackle at the cost of a high draft pick) we hear that the issue isn't being addressed. In reality the line (particularly the 2nd stringers) is a completely different unit than that which failed down the stretch. Will the strategy of relying on draft picks and young players work, who knows. But it's not fair or correct to say that our Oline is the same unit that failed miserably at the end of last year.

Cooley would run a sick fake punt, just take the play the Titans ran in the HOF game and we're set. 95% of the time it works every time.

The thing that most upset me from the depth chart was Yoder over Davis because I really didn't expect it. ARE over Thomas/Kelly I expected, but it's the one thing that is probably most important to change ... other than Cooley to move ahead of Hunter the Punter.

And about the linebackers we drafted, yeah we're thin at O-line, but we are also thin at LB and we tried to draft there, but it looks like we were unsuccessful. We still should've added O-line depth through free agency since we didn't draft anybody, but I guess we didn't learn that lesson from last year when we had a back-up center playing left tackle.

The only way that Westbrook makes the squad is if Smoot doesn't. Shame, I was kinda hoping he would pan out.

I was high on Eric Wood. Everyone was saying that he and the other guy I wanted were second rounders; I knew better. It wasn't surprising to see Wood and Levitre get handled in the HOF game the other night. It was their first NFL game. It will be interesting to see how our guys do but they all have more playing time than guys that just got drafted.

I'm not worried as much as I have been. I don't think Randy Thomas is going to be the starter this year. Something in my gut says Rinehart is going to be there with Randy as a back-up. Montgomery and Williams are good depth players that might move up this year or next, depending on injuries. This is just from what coaches are saying. We'll see. We are short on good tackles though.

the guy they drafted in the 7th round, marko ? or hagans.....or at this point anyone that can practice 2 days in a row. kelly can't play because his body can't hold up and it's time to cut our losses.

Wow..that is as short-sighted a post as I've ever seen around here.
