As the 13th pick last year, Jonathan Stewart (RB, Panthers) signed a 5 year $14million contract.
Derrick Harvey was the 8th pick last year, and second DE taken. He signed a 5 year, $23.8million contract. $17million guaranteed.

Not a bad deal. The best part about it is, Orakpo wasn't out long enough to get on the nerves of Greg Blache. The deal actually is a pretty good one. Orakpo seems almost destined for OLB. Likely in an Arrington type role, up on the line on third down passing situations. Will be interesting to watch tape from training camp and see how he progresses at LB throughout the weeks.

The fact that Blache is teaching him to play OLB says a great deal about his versatility. He will be able to line up as an end and drop into coverage when we run the zone blitz with Landry coming in to deck the opposing QB as well as moving around to the LB position during shifts which will most likely be called my L. Fletcher. Very exciting player to watch develop!

Adam Schefter via Twitter is saying 5 years, $20M, $12.1M guaranteed.
thats a good deal right there. unless there is a bonafide stud in the top 5 at a position of desperate need for us i do not want to be picking and paying for a top 5 draft pick. i.e. lions who have been screwed by joey harrington, mike williams, and that wr rodgers (who i really liked and just don understand what happened to him).
we get orakpo at 5 yrs 20 mil who could just as easily be as good as tyson jackson who is going to get (im guessin) around 35 - 40 mil for 5 yrs.
go skins!!

If he makes a smooth transition to SAM LB, our defense is going to be stellar!!! There's no doubt that he will pressure the QB when given the opportunity to rush. A happy day indeed!

agreed, the 11-20 range is good value w/fairly high probability the player comes through. I know it might evoke some negative reaction, but even our very own 50-50, Rod Gardener, was a decent value pick at 16 I think. He wasn't a star but a good 2 reciever for a few years. He got paid decently but didn't jeopardize the cap like top 10 picks do.
If you pick in the top 10 & the player can't even start for you, you get stuck in the cycle of hoping the next top 5 or 10 pick you have pans out. in the meantime, those guys eat up cap space & $.

Traditional linebacker position names:
Sam = strong side linebacker
Mike = middle linebacker
Will = weak side linebacker
