Sounds like the deal was close to getting done last tonight.

I hope both sides can get this contract worked out in the next day or two, and get this kid on the field.

This is valuable time he will be missing if this drags out for to long. Especially with the thought of Orakpo changing positions and making the transition to LB.

Thoughts.

He also said he thought the team was "real close" to signing first-round draft pick Brian Orakpo on Wednesday night, but the deal did not get done, and he expressed an urgency to get the defensive end/linebacker into camp soon.

Thread title is not long enough!

I think Orakpo will be in camp very soon.

I think it's Orakpo's birthday tomorrow. Contract would be a nice gift. I think he gets signed by Sunday at the latest

Thread title needs to be more descriptive :)

I think he'll be in soon, I'll bet by Friday afternoon.

The holdup does not seem to be coming from him in terms of readiness for a holdout or anything. That is good.

While having him on the field is clearly ideal, if he misses only four or so of the 34 training camp practices, that is not so bad.

Plus zorn has emphasized several times how Orakpo is a "quick study"; hopefully that makes the time missed even less of a concern. I too think he'll be signed in time to get some practice in tomorrow, and at the very latest by next week.

Here's a tip for the title: "Orakpo Signing Watch". I wonder if this thread broke the record of longest thread title.

Not to take away anything from this thread which I believe was supposed to be about the first day of camp, but for those who stayed at home like myself did you notice the NFL network had a list of teams that opened their camp today and the Skins was not on it. They seemed to hover around the Cowboys camp and I think Minn. No mentions of the Skins from what I could see.

I can only hope we stay completely under the radar. Way under the radar. Forget about us people until like week 10. May we shock the hell out of you.

My guess is that he won't be signed until Sunday. This is one the slowest draft signing periods in a long time, but I think he'll be fine as long as he signs during the weekend.
