freddyg12 07-28-2009, 04:03 PM I'd rather we trade for Tarvaris Jackson than sign Vick. I just don't see how he fits on this team. I only sign him if we can trade him (which we probably can't). And PFT comparing his indiscretions to Haynesworth's is ridiculous. People keep confusing the difference between Haynesworth's actions and Leonard Little's (though I agree he should have been banned for a significant amount of time) with Vick's as humans vs. animals. But that's not what it's about, what Vick did was premeditated. He didn't act out of sudden impulse like Haynesworth when he stomped Gurode.
Maybe the worst part of any "premeditated" actions Vick did was bank rolling an organized crime ring for a couple of years. I'm not saying that if he actually killed dogs that's less, but it's pretty hard to make excuses for involvement in such a venture for that long a period.
Slingin Sammy 33 07-28-2009, 04:29 PM Oh man my computer screwed up again. Had this nice long written message and for what ever reason....computer froze. Failed to send. LoL. UUUHHHGGG.
Anyway this was a summary....ExtremeSkins has a blog about someone having seen MV in the Ashburn area.
PFT: Skins/Vick AND Tanner Cooley's twitter and FB: Mike Vick was in Ashburn today. - EXTREMESKINS.com (http://www.extremeskins.com/showthread.php?t=292429)
My only issue is MV is a native of southern Virginia not northern Virginia. He would have passed a ton of decent eating places in Norfolk (where he grew up) and Richmond, as well as simply eating in Fairfax off of 95. Why would he go out of his way? To simply make other teams think he was visiting the Skins so he can generate some interest? or did he meat with a team official?
Just trying to stir the pot. ;)Aren't him and D. Hall buddies? Maybe his agent was in the area, he has the same agent as Campbell.
When Zorn says no Wildcat, Cerrato says "No", and the reliable talking heads, John Clayton etc. have the Skins as "No way". I'm not worried about it. Vick doesn't fit what Zorn's trying to do at all. Quick reads, quick release, accuracy, none of these are qualities Vick has ever had. I'd put any of our back-ups (even Brennan, LOL) in long before Vick.
freddyg12 07-28-2009, 04:38 PM If not for the inevitable pr issue that would ensue (at least for a while), Vick would be great in dc. He could return punts & play wr w/a very limited role. Just to get him the ball on a screen pass would command some attention. He could play ARE's gadget plays much better & can throw an incredible bomb.
As a standard qb though, I agree w/those that say he's not needed here. Whoever (Al Davis) signs him will likely look at a variety of ways to get him the ball, direct snap or otherwise.
JLee9718 07-28-2009, 05:42 PM Vick needs to go to the Raiders...but he'll probably end up with the Redskins. I hope not, but my wishes aren't of any concern to Snyder.
takethecake 07-28-2009, 08:03 PM Personally, I'd like to see him go to the vikings now that the whole brett favre thing is dead... I think he's a better version of tarvaris jackson
vallin21 07-28-2009, 08:38 PM I just think there is too much to deal with if he signs with us. I honestly don't think he's changed that much, but he serverved his timed and should be fully reinstated. That said, if we did sign him it would tell me 3 things.
1) The FO doesn't think JC is a franchise QB.
2) Zorn has no influence in any personell discisions
3) They would be taking a huge PR risk, and it worries me that he's only 2-3 hours from his old neighborhood and could get influenced by the wrong people in DC.
BigHairedAristocrat 07-28-2009, 11:02 PM My thoughts on the matter:
1. I have not seen any evidence yet from Vick to make me think he's truly remorseful. Yes, he convinced the Commish to reinstate him, but if you believe that the interest and revenue Vick would bring to the NFL didn't factor heavily into the decision, then you're out of your mind.
2. That said, if Vick is truly a "changed man," it makes a lot of football sense to have him on the team:
A. Wildcat QB.
B. Familiar with the WCO.
C. Better #2 WCO QB than Todd Collins or Colt Brennan.
D. If Campbell sucks it up in 2009, we've got his replacement ready for 2010.
E. If Campbell is amazing in 2009, Vick's presence gives us significant negotiating leverage and flexibility in 2010 (i.e. we pay Jason less or can franchise and trade him to another team for a high value and already have a replacement on the roster.
F. We can sign him and then trade him to another WCO team if their QB goes down in the pre-season. (Teams timid about signing him now would be singing a different tune after observing his good behavior here)
We don't use the wildcat.
SirClintonPortis 07-28-2009, 11:37 PM Being a career 50% passer is a bad sign for any QB nowadays....Too bad he fits that description and the WCO is supposed to HELP raise completion percentage.
A Little Vick-Redskins Update
I just spoke to a league source who told me Michael Vick recently was saying he thought he would either join the Redskins or 49ers. But two other league sources told me there's nothing there with the Redskins, at least at the second I'm writing this. But the latter two sources also reminded me that anything can happen when Dan Snyder is determined to pursue a player. After all, as some of you have correctly pointed out, the Redskins last July said there was nothing in the works with Jason Taylor and then traded for Jason Taylor a bit later in the day.
I can't imagine that Jim Zorn would want any part of the circus-like atmosphere that would accompany Vick landing in Ashburn. I mean, these guys are getting ready to open training camp Thursday, the team struggled in the second half of Zorn's first season as a head coach and he probably needs to reach the playoffs to return for a third season. And after Snyder's attempts to replace Jason Campbell in the offseason, bringing in Vick would really help build the starting quarterback's confidence, wouldn't it?
Agent Joel Segal represents Campbell and Vick, and Segal knows Campbell as well as anyone. I just dont see this making sense.
