TheSmurfs22 07-21-2009, 10:30 PM You're talking about a guy that can probably get any women he wants. Why would someone like HIM rape someone like her?
~~~~~
I do not know the definite answer but again I believe it goes back the belief by some that they are above the law and above most people. People are there for their amusement. Why do athletes and entertainers shoplift, rob, or even kill?
~~~
It makes no sense. He has too much to lose. Yeah sure it's possible, but like I said some things are LESS possible. Plus there is no criminal case, apparently no evidence and it's a year later. Sorry but I'm not giving this women the benefit of the doubt. Not yet.
~~~~~~~
I really hope Ben did not do this, I happen to think he is a pretty standup guy but we will find out. If he did do this then he should be punished. If she is lying then she should be punished. Crying rape is just as bad in my opinion.
I had a friend who was raped and what she went through is beyond words.
DBUCHANON101 07-22-2009, 12:14 AM Nobody thought a guy like R Kelly was going around pissing on young girls when we could say he would have no problem getting a grown woman of his choosing. Did you see the girl Kobe was caught with? how bout McNair? -rip-
Many famous guys have been caught in these situations or similiar ones. I hope Ben didnt do it but to say he didnt just by going off of the looks of the woman is not really evidence that he didnt.
BigHairedAristocrat 07-22-2009, 12:26 AM she has the look of a crazy woman. reports indicate she has some serious mental problems. neither point helps her case.
skinsfan69 07-22-2009, 12:27 AM There are rules to rape? I wasn't aware of this.
All you guys that are instantly discrediting this woman for no reason other than it's a year later and it's not a criminal suit should understand that rape is rape. How she goes about finding justice, is her choice.
For the record, I am not saying he's guilty, nor am I saying she is guilty of making something up. Let the evidence speak for itself and shame on a lot of you for even discarding this allegation even though you know NOTHING about EITHER of them. The evidence will hopefully come out, and who knows, maybe Ben has done this before, and others will then come forward. It could just be an overzealous ex-employee or fling...no one knows yet.
No there are no rules. But rape is a felony and if you don't go to the cops and just want money and wait a year later to open your mouth then it just doesn't look right. And from what's being reported she's got mental problems. She was making up some crazy story about falling in love with someone over the Internet who didn't exsist. I read about it on TMZ. Ben probably nailed her and stopped calling her and she flipped out. I'm telling you that women do some crazy shit, especially when it comes to getting involved with powerful men.
DBUCHANON101 07-22-2009, 12:38 AM Many rapes go unreported, that doesnt change what it is. the woman usually feels like she will be made to look bad by the man,especially one in a star status like Ben. im not sayin he did it but to go off of her looks or the time she took to come out really doesnt prove anything.
djnemo65 07-22-2009, 12:40 AM I'm riding with Jsarno on this one. It's one thing to, after having done some research regarding the case, point out that there are a few considerations that cast doubt on her accusation. In this case there appears to be. However, it is another entirely to in a knee-jerk manner write her off as just another skank. The fact is that, while women do make false allegations in this country, it is overwhelmingly more likely like for a man guilty of rape to walk free. There are many reasons for this - women's reluctance to follow through on charges, difficult evidentiary burdens of proof - but a large one is the presumption that exists amongst many that a purported victim must have wanted it somehow, that she must share at least some of the blame.
We see that here in many of the conclusions that I believe were prematurely jumped to. So I guess I'm just not crazy about some of the language in this thread.
I agree. But I would also like to add that women who make false statements against men are more likely to walk free than pay any sort of penalty for any injury they may have caused the man they made false allegations against. The court system in this country is in dire need of common sense. Hopefully we'll see a day when there is proper justice for anyone who has been harmed by the intention or negligence of another.
Pocket$ $traight 07-22-2009, 01:28 AM Well thank goodness he is charged with committing an illegal act against a human instead of an animal. He will probably emerge unscathed.
I was thinking the same thing. I love how Ben gets the benefit of the doubt from most people and this case is barely even being covered on Sirius NFL Radio while there are people saying Mike Vick should never play again...wtf? Since when did victimizing other people become back page news?
I'm not saying this did or did not happen. However, I will say that something doesn't seem right about this one. I know none of us know Roethlisberger personally, I just think this one is a bit hard to believe. Particularly considering this:
...she was allegedly involved with a married man. The man's wife, we're told, created an email account, posing as a U.S. soldier in Iraq. The wife began corresponding with McNulty to gain information. We're told the former co-worker has said McNulty fell in love with the fictitious soldier and began telling people she was engaged to him. When the wife stopped the correspondence, McNulty then began telling people the soldier was killed in action.
We're told McNulty told at least one co-worker she began seeing a psychiatrist because of the phantom soldier.
If she fell for something like that, does it not seem equally plausible that she could have made this stuff up?
Finally, she's suing for somewhere in the neighborhood of $400k, to me that smacks of, "we'll pick a number he could easily pay so that we don't have to take this thing to court." If I were Ben, I just might do that and have this nonsense over with.
I heard a caller yesterday basically making this same point, but Ross Tucker explained this story just broke, there's very little info known at this point, so he would rather wait for some facts to come out before he forms an opinion either way.
I totally agree.
