I have to say, when I saw it live, I was taken back... like .. WOW. It was clear, the fury and inner anger Gibbs had goin on.
but the reason is perfectly clear... on the Monday Night Countdown shows, I picked up some things about our fearsome leader...
1) The Dallas Cowgirls.
He LOVED making and carrying on the true HATRED that fueled this rivalry in the 80's. He wants to get the team back to that (it still is clearly in him). He knows it can be the ultimate motivational tool for a season, much less 2 games each year... wanting to be better than Dallas. For Dallas to beat him at home, especially due to a couple of "oopses" in his game-calling... makes him burn inside, just like us.
2) Bill Parcells
When Gibbs was hired, Parcells left him a message that said, "Does this mean we can't talk for 5 years?" Well, I guess he has his answer, seeing as how Joe hasn't answered him or spoken to him (including last night) yet. He knows you can't be friendly with the enemy... you'll lose that edge, that fire to beat them... and trust me that's how he sees Parcells as the Cowgirls coach.
Also, when asked what he thought of Parcells, one of the first things he said was, "He thinks he is a great coach, and I guess he has shown that he is." Now, I think it's prety obvious that there is something beneath the surface there impying he thinks Billy Tuna is a little inflated when it comes to his ego. I mean, you KNOW there is a HINT of animosity there for Gibbs just because Parcells has "had his number" during his career. He knows that his legacy is on the line this time around... and that Parcells could step past him on that top 5 list of all-time coaches if he continues this trend.
So... all in all... it is really clear why Gibbs would HATE having to shake his hand after the game, DEFINTELY not wanting to conceed that he had been beaten by the Chicken of the Sea... but as the class act he is... he at least went through the motions and met him at midfield... I guarantee you boys, no matter how angry we are about last night, the man in the black hat with a red "R" emblazoned on it... is BURNING UP over this one...
