Check out the link the Ware thread. It highlights the dubious history of the supplemental draft. However, it did also say that Jarmon would've most likely gone in the second round in 2010.

yeah...if he played this year...which he CANT because he is freaking ineligible.
If he sat out a year...he'd probably drop significantly...like a 5th rounder.
I am just not thrilled with using a 3rd rounder on a guy that missed out on all the rookie camp crap....yeah we got him a year early...but that guy better get off his butt and prove why we gave up a roster spot for a benchwarmer.
I want to see this guy kill it on special teams...DAY ONE.
There aint much complicated about running like a bat outta hell to crunch someone with a 40 yard head of steam.
I want this guy to earn his keep and PROVE he is worth a 3rd!
I will have to SEE it to BELIEVE it!

Maybe. We'll never know because if we hadn't taken him now, someone else would have.

Mike Williams from USC missed a collegiate year and still went high in the first round. Sure, he was a bust, but he is a counterpoint to the idea that if you sit out, your draft stock drops.

Besides, if Jarmon had not been drafted supplementally, he would have had months and months to prep for the Combine. Even if he had waited until 2010 to be drafted, he still may have gone high.

But you are correct in your last comment. EVERY draft pick has to prove his worth on the field. Let's hope that all of our rooks do so.

Well it's like someone said, if the Eagles or someone else would have got him, people would be saying how he's probably going to be a great player and why can't we make moves like that.....:blah: Good move by the FO.Well, some organizations that aren't the Redskins have earned the benefit of the doubt.

Which is really all this boils down to. There's legitimate doubt about the quality of the player we drafted. There would be doubt no matter who drafted him. The Redskins have earned their reputation to overpay for mediocre talent, like it or not.

The counter-argument to this is that reputation doesn't mean crap in the long run, and that we'll either get good value on this pick or we won't just like any other team. Count me as legitimately skeptical of the pick, but without a strong Devin Thomas-type argument that it shouldn't have been made. Just a bad feeling that we're overhyping a late-round talent.

I'm one of the 96 who voted good move, btw. I'm just lukewarm on it and taking the oppertunity to play devil's advocate.

I understand what you're saying Tripp. I also had doubts. But the more I think about it, it could turn out to be a good move. Perhaps even a great move. From all reports, even the Eagles were bidding for him. That doesn't neccessarily make me any more sure of his talent, but it does mean that we weren't the only ones who believe he was worth picking. Whether others thought he wasn't worth a higher pick, or were just gambling that they would have the high bid is unknown, but I think it was worth the risk.

But I also know that being a good fit, and being able to develop on the expected schedule of an NFL lineman are different things, and I question the latter of these variables. I don't know if he's going to develop quickly enough to make this pick worth our while.

Optimistically, I'm just going to be wrong.

what about Vick, he could go to Dallas or Cinci next year. Amazing that the cowgirls and bungles have knocked the Raiders completely off the radar for thugs.

It pleases me to no end that the Cowboys and Raiders are competing for the worst-character rosters. If only the Cowboys could play as poorly as the Raiders. Man, how I HATE both of those teams.

The risk is nothing compared to what KC and Denver gave for T. Jackson and Ayers at the 3rd and 18th picks . Jarmon , Jackson and Ayers played DE in the SEC . Here are the Numbers , TFL/Sacks , Jarmon 30/18 ,,, Jackson 31/19 ,,, Ayers 31/9 ,,, and Orakpo 38/22 . Jarmon's No.s are in 3 years , so his productivity is as good as the guys taken in rd 1 this year , if not better .

Yes. Added to this is that Jarmon would not be a great fit in a 3-4 scheme so presumably 3-4 teams did not take him seriously, only 4-3 teams did. And we know that several of these 4-3 teams did bid. As you indicate, while we'll never know exactly how high he was valued by other teams, we do know that he was valued. We aren't the only ones who saw something in him.

Vinny scares me when he is the only one to value a player. As GTripp indicates, Vinny does not get the benefit of my doubt. Knowing that Vinny was not alone in valuing Jarmon makes me feel much better.

Maybe the Cowboys will this year. :)
