Roy's place in Gaithersburg. Over 200 different kinds of sandwiches. Sadly, Roy passed away a few months ago, but the place still carries on the tradition.

One of the sandwiches is
A Good Cold Sandwich
"Two stale heels of bread enclosing a freshly-made ice cube"
SmootSmack 07-15-2009, 02:16 PM Roy died? That's awful. Roy's place is an institution in Gaithersburg.
TheMalcolmConnection 07-15-2009, 02:29 PM Steamed cheeseburgers are kind of a big deal around here. I'd never heard of them before I moved up here, but there's a place called Ted's that has pretty awesome steamed cheeseburgers.
Anyone else ever had turtle soup?
I had one of those a while back and I think it was definitely up in New England. Gives it a TOTALLY different texture. Delicious.
And Gmanc, you've told me about those before, and I want one of those for breakfast every single day.
Garbage Plates Anyone? Thats a pretty "Rochester, NY" type thing, although I have seen it in the area.... pretty much the most unhealthy thing, but greatest thing on earth...
Take your pick, two hot dogs/hamburgers put on top of a combination of mac salad/baked beans/homefries/french fries (your choice of two) than topped with oninons/ketchup/mustard and MEAT hot sauce... if you dont have meat hot sauce, you really have not lived... I've heard its pretty much a local thing, but has anyone else had these?
We have a local place in Saratoga called PJ's BBQ and they have garbage plates, but they give proper credit to the Rochester area on the menu.
GMScud 07-15-2009, 02:48 PM A buddy of mine lived in Hilton Head for a while, and I used to drive up from Florida every summer and visit. Anyway, there was this awesome breakfast place down the street from his house called Skillets. They had a platter called The Kitchen Sink. It had everything except, well, the kitchen sink. Eggs, sausage, pancakes, bacon, hash browns... it was awesome. Great hangover food.

When you say steamed burger you mean they put them in a steamer and cook the entire burger that way. I have seen where they put the burger on a cook top put ice or water sround the burger then they cover it with a top so it also steams as it cooks.

THAT is a shame. I first went there with my parents in the late 70's. I STILL get the occasional order "to go" delivered to S. FLorida on dry ice. RIP Roy.....you made an institution
Sweet Lorraine......hmmmmm!

I have eaten there. Ever been to Hudson's? I worked there for a few years and on the shrimp boats that were parked there as well.

This kind of explains it
