Hey guys,

Working on an article about the recent history/struggles of the Redskins receivers. I thought I could throw around a question on the WP to get a loose majority opinion.

Basically, looking for the BEST 7 seasons by a WR in the B & G since (including) 1999. In making your list, please take everything into account. Effect on opposing coordinators, who was throwing the ball, leadership (if applicable).

A list would look something like this, (no research behind this, just an example):

1. Moss, 2005
2. Coles, 2003
3. Connell, 1999
4. Moss, 2008
5. Westbrook, 1999
6. Gardner, 2002
7. Randle El, 2007

What's yours?

Westbrook and Connell in '99 were dynamite. It's amazing when you think about it: Connell basically came out of nowhere and Brad Johnson in his first year took no time to click with those guys. Along with Stephen Davis tearing it up in the backfield, that was a potent offense.

Moss in '05 was the only thing that came close. Just imagine what our offense would have looked like if there was another wideout across the field that was worth a damn.

There were some flashes at the position in '03 under Spurrier. Other than that, it's been sparse over the last 10 years.

I would call it something like this:
Name Year Receptions Yards TD's
Santana Moss 2005 84 1,483 9
Michael Westbrook 1999 65 1,191 9
Rod Gardner 2002 71 1,006 8
Laveranues Coles 2003 82 1,204 6
Santana Moss 2008 79 1,044 6
Albert Connell 1999 62 1,132 7
Laveranues Coles 2004 90 950 1

I would possibly move Santana's 2008 season into the #1 or #2 spot considering the kind of year he had with the amount of attention he drew.

Man, I hope Santana and Malcolm Kelly or Devin Thomas knock some of these names of the list this season.

1. Moss - 2005 (The only receiver doing anything that season and he did a lot)
2. Coles - 2003 (Pro-Bowl)
3. Westbrook - 1999 (Norv Turner's system and Brad Johnson at QB were advantages that the other receivers on this list never came close to having)
4. Connell - 1999 (See above)
5. Gardner - 2002 (8 TDS moves him up a notch on my list)
6. Moss - 2008 (Some explosive games, but too many cases of being m.i.a.)
7. Coles - 2004 (90 catches with not much help from anyone else)

How on earth can you guys forget the man...the myth....the one and only WR the Skins were actually afraid to utilize for fear he would take the world by storm pushing S.Moss to a secondary role.....Lloyd. ;)

The way I see it we have only had 2 WR's worth their weight in gold since Gibbs first term and that was/is....S.Moss and L.Coles.

My god, it has been that bad hasn't it. I want to puke now. At least Thrash wasn't up there on anybody's list.

Thrash wasn't that bad when he was with Westbrook and Connell. He was a decent #3 or #4 WR when he was young. I would take a young Thrash over ARE possibly. Shoot even Leslie Shepherd back in the day was more productive than ARE.

Yeah, I do miss Norv, I admit it. His system even made Gus a pro bowler. Maybe if he gets canned in SD after this season we can bring him back as the new OC if Zorn gets the boot. Norv is too laid back to be a HC, but a OC he might get us back into a groove.

Have you given up on Zorn already Gus?

What's yours?

Randle El in 2007? 50 catches for 700 yards and 1 TD?? Why?

Also, why 7?

I'd say:

1) Moss 2005
2) Coles 2003
3) Connell 1999
4) Westbrook 1999
5) Moss 2008
6) Coles 2004
7) Gardner 2002
