This is going to be tough to stomach for some people, so Im just going to go ahead and say it. What has made Gibbs such a good coach? Im young, and I started being a redskins fan around 95 (great time to start I know), and my whole life I have been force fed how great a coach Joe Gibbs was.
Here is what I saw tonight, disorganization, questionable play calling, horrible clock management. Those timeouts? notably sellers obviously being in the wrong spot and the play clock running out. wasnt that supposed to stop when we gave Spurrier the boot? At the end of the 3rd quarter, we ran three straight pass plays, the running game was working. And the clock management, the end of the first half, that was almost embarassing. Williams was screaming at Gibbs on the sidelines.
I trust Gibbs and I believe everything that I have heard, and I am by no means giving up on us this season, but I am just tired. Somebody please give me some hope

They will retort with I HAVE FAITH IN GIBBS, and not give you a real answer.

some hope, last year we would have lost that game by 20....if gardner is one more foot to the left, we tie it and who knows next...

I'm young too, but I have the same response as Dasel. We dont lose this game if its not for the refs, plain and simple. Its the third game, I know it was Dallas, but whatever, give him time. I NEVER put losses on the refs, but this will be the first. That was straight up b*llshit.

the challange wasn't the problem. We lost timeouts because 1) Brunell was dicking around and 2) there was one dumb fuck that didn't know where he was suppose to be so a TO was called.

This is football, shit happens but this game was lost on the account of the refs. I'll be expecting an appology from the League come monday.

Gmac - I'm not sold on Gibbs yet. He hasn't shown me very much. Granted I'm willing to give him 3 years of my life to get us to the playoffs, but I'm still not sold.

Now, when Sellers went in motion, why didn't Brunnel just snap it instead of wasting a TO. I'd rather just make a no-gain then waste a TO. He was going horizontal so it would have been legal. Or is that too difficult to do quickly? Smack the center on the ass.

you can blame the refs and yes they made several and i mean several bad calls but i agree the coaching staff let us down tonight. 1. Why didnt we put more pressure on Vinny in the second half Williams seemed to drop off more which was a terrible mistake because vinny is deadly when he has time. 2. We ignored the running game in the second half when we didnt need to. the rollout in the first half before halftime? Why the hell would u roll Brunell to his right when he is left handed they knew the throw was coming and they roll him to the right where he has to set his shoulders and throw. Why not roll him to the left which is his side (duh) where he can see his options. One other point i would like to make. I love Portis and hes a great back but i saw several openings that i felt he could of broke to me sometimes he gets hit and just falls which irratates me because he needs to bounce off tackles more. But i will finish with this its very early we have 13 games left and alot of football left to play i think you will see this offense gel. But next week is a must win @ Cleveland...its a must

I'm not that damn young and I must tell it like it is. I knew from the outset that Gibbs was going to start out with a conservative running game. What I didn't appreciate about what he did was run only Portis and not get Betts not even one carry. This is a rode to destruciton. Portis is not our only back. Secondly, Coach Gibbs play calling at the goal line was sloppy and rushed to say the least. The bootleg with Cooley as the intended receiver worked against the Giants. Dallas bit on the run and Gibbs never called a bootleb. The next issue is the decision to challenge a TD when you already don't have but one timeout. Fire this so-called ex-referee because he doesn't know what the hell he's looking at. Lastly, as much as we say the players have to believe in Gibbs, I think that also applys to Gibbs. He has to believe in Cooley, McCants, Betts and Rasby and keep them involved in the offense. Gibbs has to change Ray Brown from the offensive line because he cannot protect Brunell. Brunell was sacked 5 times tonight ans took a beating. Lastly, the reason we hold Gibbs in high esteem is because he can use a no-name player and make them a true competitor with the best. The problem with this team right now is the offense was too one-dimensional in the first half. It only began to mix it up in the second half.

Here's my answer, the guy has been away from coaching for 12 years, of course he's going to be rusty in some areas. It's not going to all come back 100% perfectly right away.

Just as the offense needs time to come together (which it started to tonight), we should grant the same time and patience to Gibbs to rediscover his coaching skills.
