I received one from my mother-in-law for my grandfathers flag. Talk about disrespect, my aunt's and uncle's were going to throw it in the garbage when my grandma died. I saved it and framed it and put a picture of my grandfather in it.

What the hell? That's crazy man. I never met my paternal grandfather and apparently he wasn't a very good man, but the family kept the flag and it was recently passed down to me by an uncle after my father's passing (my grandmother got his).

my pop never hints or out right asks for anything but a month ago he pulled me aside and said he wants one of those golf caddie GPS systems. he said he wanted the "bushnell" and not the "skycaddie".

did some research and the bushnell and sky caddie (basic models) cost about the same but the bushnell requires a $40 yearly subscription so you can pull up the data on any golf course. the skycaddie doesnt have a yearly subscription fee but you are stuck with about 16,000 courses and if the course you play on isnt on there your out of luck. i think the bushnell you can upload the data on any course for $1 if it isnt in the yearly subscription.

what to do? buy the skycaddie which sounds easier and probaly has most of the courses he plays or get the one he wanted despite my research pointing otherwise?

ps he plays on a very established golf course team around the metro area so he plays different courses every saturday.

leaning towards getting him the bushnell model. thats what the man wanted.

go skins!!

ps - for fathers day, my mom, dad, brothers, brothers family, neices, my friends who are dads are all going fishing around clarksburg then bbq.

Little Seneca Lake at Black Hill Regional Park? Sweet place to go fishing.

Oh, and get him the Bushnell. Or buy the Skycaddie, see if all the courses he wants are on there. If not, take it back and get the Bushnell.

That is pretty low trying to down grade JoeRedskin's son's accomplishments. Dude is proud of his son. So what if your kid or neighbor's kid had the same thing written, be proud of them as well, this world needs a lot of good heart people.

What you expect the teachers to write, that your kid could flew over the moon or something.

Got to agree with this.

Don't want to get all "sarah palin" and get offended over nothing, but that was a pretty stupid and unneccessary response.

And for the record JR, my report cards never said anything about playing well with or being nice to others. Pretty much the opposite... Good job.

Yeah I thought it was pretty low too, uncalled for. Glad I wasn't the only who thought that.

Seriously. Teachers don't make things up and write them on report cards make parents feel all warm and fuzzy. Cynical and uncalled for.

I wonder if he thinks what was written on HIS kid's report card was BS. If so, that's funny and sad at the same time.

Mocking this kind of thing on a Father's Day thread is low.

Yeah well I guess Firstdown is to busy telling us all what is wrong with Obama adminstration or maybe he is at a "Tea Party" to come back to this thread and apologize for his rude comment.

I got my Dad a gift card for Best Buy. I've given him that same gift numerous times for Christmas, birthdays, etc., but I know he loves getting it. He's a gadget geek like myself and he's always got his eye on some sort of new toy. I usually give him that or some sort of food gift, like gourmet cookies or candy.

First, thanks for the comments all. Second, in terms of what was written in my son's report card, it was backed up by several independent comments from his teachers, the principal and separately from the parents of other kids. Finally, at this point, fd has been duly chastised and we can just drop it as far as I am concerned.

But back to my original question (maybe it should be it's own thread) -
For the Dad's out there: What was your "It's great to be a Dad" moment?
