"I'm awfully disappointed Riggo said that because Riggo is one of the all-time, all-time great Redskins and to talk about our leader like that is wrong. And I would tell him to his face. Ain't nothing wrong with Joe Gibbs. Joe Gibbs wants to be here. He feels he can win. He is doing a great job for us. For John or any of the old Redskins to say something like that is off the wall. That's disrespectful. End of story."
-Assistant Head Coach Joe Bugel responding to former Redskins tailback John Riggins' remarks about Joe Gibbs' heart not being into his second go 'round.

i don't know...i think Riggo should be allowed to speak his mind, and he didn't say it to be mean, but he was giving his gut opinion. But given the fact that Gibbs is currently coaching, and coming off a loss, its poor timing and its disrespectful to a former leader. I wouldn't have a problem if it wasn't someone who had a special relationship with Gibbs.

But, that's the thing. Joe Gibbs led Riggo into the greatest seasons he has ever had. He got to see Joe Gibbs the man first hand. Just from hearing the man speak, I can tell that there is something special there and something that just says "hey this guy cares a heck of a lot about the game of football and the Redskins."
I think Buges is looking at it as a kind of mutiny to belittle the man who made so many players who they were. That is not to say that Riggo isn't entitled to his opinion, but words also provoke thoughts and opinions can be very unpopular, especially when you're talking about the most popular man in Washington.

I think it would have been one thing if Riggins had questioned Gibbs' personnel moves or his strategy but questioning the man's commitment to the Redskins, that takes things to another level

its that he's questioning it when he hasn't been there or seen anything that's gone on in the camps etc...
he saw a few minutes of the NY game and decided gibbs wasn't going to get it done... even though his first start in 81 went 0-5 and wasn't that pretty either...

I think it's all about Riggo trying to boost his audience ratings.
