Paintrain 05-26-2009, 06:15 PM Taking the lead from the NFC East positional rankings thread, if you had one game to win and could pick any whole unit from all of the NFC East teams, who would you choose? For me:
QB-This is probably the toughest call in the division IMO. I don't think JC is in the discussion at this point. Romo is a proven choke artist and the criteria is one game to win, so he's out. Eli has a Super Bowl ring and no longer seems to make the killer mistake but do I trust him to be clutch? McNabb has the most talent in the division and can make things happen on any play. I'm going with McNabb.
RB- For only one game, I want a unit that can make plays and also get me the tough yards. I'm going with the Marion Barber/Felix Jones/Tashard Choice combination. Barber can be my bell cow, Jones has home run potential and Choice can come in for 5-8 touches and I can trust him.
WR-Give me the speed of Santana Moss, the versatility of Antwaan Randle-El and the size of Thomas/Kelly and I'll be comfortable at the WR position. If it's only one game, I'm hoping we can get Moss singled up a few times to take a deep shot and we've got chain movers at the other spots.
TE- At the risk of losing my maroon and black Redskins card, we're going with Witten and Bennett at the TE position in a close one over Cooley/Davis. Celek and Boss aren't even in consideration. Witten is the superior blocker and Bennett has a rare size/speed combination that can prove to be huge with a favorable matchup.
OL- I'm going with the Giants line in a slight upset over the Eagles line. Jason Peters has a lot to prove to me after giving up 11.5 sacks in '08 and Andrews is coming off of a torn ACL so he has to prove he's healthy.
DL- Not really much debate here, it's clearly the Giants. They are 7 deep on the D-line and with the return of Osi to go with Tuck, that'll scare the drawers off of any QB.
LB- If only for one game, I'm going with Dallas. I don't really like Brooking (old and washed up), Burnett doesn't do it for me, but having the best pass rusher in the game in DeMarcus Ware is too tempting to pass up.
CB- Very close between the Eagles and Redskins. Philly has a very solid threesome of Samuel, Brown and Hobbs and measure up well to Hall, Rogers and Smoot. I think Hall is every bit the CB as Samuel, Rogers is better than Brown and Smoot is not as good as Hobbs, but of all 6 CB, Hall has the ball skills and return skills to change the game. I'll just pray that the ball doesn't hit Rogers in the hands.
S- Easily Landry and Horton. Nobody else in the division is really close.
K- Nick Folk. Reliable, good from distance.
P- Sav Rocca. Coolest punter name in the division, which is saying something with a Mat (one T) and Hunter the Punter.
PR/KR DeSean Jackson can change the game every time he touches the ball.
Coaching staff- Gotta go with the SB winning Giants staff. Although the impact of the loss of Spagnola is yet to be seen, it's hard to ignore a SB winning staff.
Brian Orakpo 05-26-2009, 07:10 PM Nice thread Paintrain. :food-smil
QB- Eagles. Give me McNabb over all three of the other QBs.
RB- Cowboys. Barber, Felix Jones, and Choice give me a three headed monster of doom.
WR- Eagles. Ill take the explosive playmaking ability of DeSean Jackson, Kevin Curtis, and Jeremy Maclin.
TE- Cowboys. Ill take Witten and Bennett. Even though its hard not to go with my boy Coooooooooooley and Fred Davis.
OL- Eagles. The additions of Jason Peters and Stacy Andrews makes the Eagles OL top notch.
DL- Giants. The amount of talent and depth on their defensive line is impressive.
LB- Cowboys. Give me DeMarcus Ware any day of the week.
CB- Redskins. Ill take Hall, Rogers, and Smoooooooot.
S- Redskins. LaRon Landry and Chris Horton. Nuff said.
K- Cowboys. Nick Folk is a great kicker who can kick them from anywhere.
P- Cowboys. Matt McBriar is a damn good punter who has a helluva leg.
PR/KR Eagles. Give me DeSean Jackson.
Coaching staff- Eagles. Andy Reid even though he hasnt won the Super Bowl is a yearly winner.
dmek25 05-26-2009, 08:13 PM QB- as much as i hate to say it, Manning( the only one with a ring)
RB- Portis and Betts. Portis is better the Barber, and Betts over Jones( for now)
WR- Moss and the gang. not even close
TE- draw. Cooley and Witten are just about equals
OL- N.Y. Giants. best rushing team in the N.F.C ( at least)
D.L- NY. Giants. tons of talent, and lots of bodies
L.B- Ware alone gets the nod
C.B- the redskins( discounting Smoot, who really sucked last season) with the eagles a close second
S- Landry alone wins this. but Horton is a baller
K- Folk, if he is healthy
P- Rocco has a helluva leg, and will also make some tackles
PR/KR- ill take the skins. Cartwright and Desean Jackson are a wash. and Randle- El still has some left in the tank
Coaches- the giants. the only staff with rings
Brian Orakpo 05-26-2009, 09:21 PM QB- as much as i hate to say it, Manning( the only one with a ring)
WR- Moss and the gang. not even close
PR/KR- ill take the skins. Cartwright and Desean Jackson are a wash. and Randle- El still has some left in the tank
Interesting picks. Eli puzzles me. I dont understand how people see a ring and think hes better than guys like McNabb or Romo. The Skins WRs arent a bad pick but I find it odd you said it isnt even close.
As for PR/KR this one really has me perplexed. I dont see Cartwright and Jackson being a wash. The main part of your lineup that throws me off is saying Randle El still has some in the tank. If he still has some in the tank why has he been running on empty for years?
The rest of your lineup makes sense to me but those things I listed above has me scratching my head. Overall though its a very solid lineup.

an23dy 05-27-2009, 02:00 AM QB - Eagles (McNabb has done it with bad recievers)
RB - Cowboys (Really like F Jones and his big play ability, great YPC)
WR - Redskins (I believe the young guys will improve)
TE - Cowboys (Tough call with the Redskins, but it is unknown how Davis will fit in with Cooley)
O-Line - Giants (It seems like the Giants RBs didn't get touched before 5 yards on most plays)
D-Line - Giants (Good all the way across and they are getting healthy and they added players this offseason)
LB - Cowboys (Probably just because they run a 3-4 they are deeper at LB, Ware is real good)
CB - Redskins (No pass rush, but the CBs always seemed to be in position even having to cover for extended periods)
S - Redskins (Landry, Horton, and Moore are all getting better and the other teams are all weak here except maybe the Giants)
KR - Redskins (Cartwright was one of the best last year)
PR - Eagles (Even though the TD vs us was BS D Jackson is good)
K - Cowboys (Folk has to be healthy)
P - Feagles - (22 seasons of experience, great numbers last year)
Coaching Staff - Eagles (Reid has kept the Eagles winning for a long time)

Cooley1 05-27-2009, 10:15 AM QB: Eli Manning (In a one game setting you risk the throw-up factor with McNabb) But for real though, look at the numbers over the last two years. Eli showed me a lot in there super bowl run, about being a big game QB.
RB: Dallas, Very close here but based on the three headed monster they take the cake. Clinton Portis IS the best back in the NFC East but Dallas provides a better all around attack.
WR: Redskins, had Dallas not lost TO or Giants loss of Plex they would easily be 1a, 1b in my opinion, but based on youth and all around potential going into this year I feel we have the best group.
TE: Skins, Cooley is the best TE in the NFC East and I don’t care to discuss the merits behind it-by far my fav. skin, and that’s- that!
O-Line: Giants, they continue to build year in and year out through the draft and have a strong unit. I think the Eagles would be a close second here.
D-Line: Giants, no question, by far the best D-Line and they just have so-so many bodies they can throw at you. This unit will be good for a LONG time.
LB: Dallas, has the best unit and the all around depth based on the 3-4 alignment. WARE is a Monster!
CB: Redskins, no question in my mind best cover skills and tackling ability in the division. This unit has been the best for several years in my book.
S: Redskins, Landry is the best S in the division and Horton will be 2nd or 3rd by years end!
K: Dallas, Nick Folk- has good distance and pretty reliable when healthy.
P: Eagles, Jeff Feagles, (who cares about punters), but for real, has great leg and proven to come up big in big games.
KR/PR: Eagles, Desean Jackson (we saw what he could do when they played us last year).
Total Positional Wins:
Skins: 4
NY: 3
Dallas: 3
Eagles: 2
GO SKINS!!
30gut 05-27-2009, 12:46 PM QB- EAGLES If all the QBs are playing their best i'll take McNabb
But, i see how some people could pick Eli
i thought he played his best football when it counted, during the playoff run and in the Superbowl.
RB- COWBOYS Felix Jones tips the scales to the Cowboys, if he makes a full recovery he is the most dynamic RB in the division
WR- EAGLES based on production last year and the addition of Macklin in the draft they are adding another explosive receiver to an already speedy unit
but with TO and Plex gone i think Williams is the most physically talented receiver in the division and Garrett has proven that he can build a good passing attack around a solid No.1 receiver with a similiar skill set, but Williams better be as good as they think
TE- COWBOYS Witten is a more consistent blocker then Cooley, and Bennet was clearly better then Davis last year.
OL- GIANTS
DL- GIANTS especially with Osi coming back and the additions of Chris Canty and Rocky Bernard
LB- *(I counted Ware as DE)REDSKINS- by a slim margin based on Fletch is still being of the best MLB in the game and based on the potential of Orakpo- he could be better, and in the way they talk about using him, much better then any SAM in the division
CB- I'm going GIANTS by a hair over the Eagles. Partly because of the pass rush and the mixed coverages and zone blitz schemes. Ross, Webster, Dockery and Terrel Thomas are imo the most solid group of 4 in the division.
S- As unit of 4 REDSKINS. Landry imo is the best FS in the division and Horton/Doughty are good in the box safeties. The staff seems to be high on Moore, i don't understand why they don't get him in the mix at SS get the 2 best players on the field but i digress..., if it was just based on starters though i would give the edge to the Giants, Phillips and Johnson make a pretty good tandem b/c Johnson a former FS playing SS gives them flexibility in coverage.
PR/KR Felix Jones
Coaching staff- Although i like both the Eagles and the Cowboys passing games, the Giants head man has a ring.
