Ok guys just to let you all know I am graduating from UVA in a couple weeks and am deep in the job hunt.
I am a foreign affairs and economics major, and have interviewed for a couple consulting jobs but not much with the government yet. I still have a couple consulting positions to apply to the in DC area but do you all have any suggestions for government jobs or NGO opportunities/application process/pointers etc?
The economy really sucks, as last couple years I had no problem finding an internship. Now things have definitely tightened up. And with my first couple interviews I really learned a lot about the do's and dont's. I am a bit worried about not having something but I am confident I can provide someone help somewhere with my skill-set.
Basically wondering anyone's experience if there are looking for a job right now and general pointers if you guys have any. Thanks.

If you're looking for government work (in the DC area there are tons of opportunities), check out USAJOBS - The Federal Government's Official Jobs Site (http://www.usajobs.gov/) .
I've personally never interviewed for a government job, so I can't offer any advice in that regard.

Hoos, Have you thought about contacting either the NFL or the Skins. I am serious, they are intent on expanding the NFL to the international scene, and it may be that your combined expertise would appeal to them. It really can't hurt to check that possibility, and as the FO might say, the upside is incredible.

Careful what you wish for...
As for government jobs, I know the application process for government jobs is remarkably long and tedious, but the site GM posted is pretty good.
Are you limiting yourself to the DC area?
Yeah getting into a State or Fed job is a major pain. A lot of hoops to jump through and their requirements are very specific.

No I am not but since I don't have something lined up I have to stay at home for a bit. It sucks but it truly will be the ultimate motivation to get employed.
Also as someone previously mentioned, it is definitely a terrible time to graduate and I was thinking about graduate studies but the costs are way too much. The parents have helped me out a good bit, and I really would not want too much debt over my head when I am unemployed.

hoo - check out firms that contract with the Federal Government. CSC, SAIC, NetStar-1, Axiom Resource Management, Intellidyne, Irving Burton Associates (which happens to be who I work for) just to name a few of the many in the DC Area...they all have contracts with the Federal Government that will get the work and environment exposure and intermingle with government clients, from which you can get leads on direct work for the government.
