If Marvin Harrison had the reputation for being a mentor to other receivers on the team, I'd take a shot on him for one year. I think his legs are shot and that he can't play most of the snaps on offense for a 16-game season any more. But if he was a mentor/leader, the young receivers on this team could use a dose of that. [Boy, could they ever...!]
However, there is no solid basis for making that assessment with regard to Marvin Harrison.
Ergo, pass on him...

At least we can get him for cheap.
Don't know why it's OK to go after Hackett / Washington but not Harrison. (unless of course it's a money issue)
People say let the youth play...well that article does speak of this:
Really, we could use AT LEAST one veteran upgrade.
Randle El- 53-593-4tds, in a full 16 games.
Harrison- 60-636-5tds, in 15 games. (through injuries too)
Rather have Harrison than Hackett. Didn't like the idea of Hackett the first time around, still dont care for it, but as a vet min, that's fine. I do think Harrison would take a vet min due to lack of options from other teams. It's either play for vet min, or don't play...what would you do?
I'd rather have Harrison than ARE as well but right now I really don;t want either.

I say no on Marvin Harrison due to the fact that he is on the decline and will not come cheap. We need to get younger not older so lets give our second year WR a shot to contribute on the field. I do think that its time for James Thrash to get into coaching than keep playing. He still great on special teams but he takes a roster spot at WR that we could use for another WR who can contribute to the offense.
So Noooo to Harrison.

What "IF" we could get Harrison at the vet min?
(not sure the cap hit we would have if we dropped ARE)

Harrison now is similar to Jerry Rice in the last two years of his career. Skill set is better than most #4 or #5 wr's but he can't or won't play special teams so there really isn't a spot for him on a game day roster.

the latest training camp update says devin thomas' hamstring is keeping him out of practice and m. kelley is also out. unbelievable. another year of no production by these two? we need a solid veteran WR - Boldin or Harrison.... thoughts?

I think you need to calm down chief.
#1 it's not training camp, it's mini camp.
#2 Kelly was expected to be out, not news.
#3 Thomas tweaked his hammy and was held out as a precaution. It wasn't a pull, he was just a little sore. If this was the regular season it might not even be news. Since it's May, there's no use in risking further injury so you take him out.

Gtripp- why am i nuts - give some reasoning instead of just name calling
this was similar news we were hearing last year with these guys. its probably why we're looking at the veteran WR's currently being discussed in other threads.

Word and Double Word. Ideally, you'd like to see them out on the field as much as possible, but like you say Kelly was expected to be out anyway and it doesn't sound like Thomas' injury is all that serious. I think Moss is out too right? (but he's probably just pulling a Portis, if you know what I mean). Either way not a major concern at this point. And to make the leap from they're not participating in mini-camp in May to thinking this means they won't produce during the regular season seems like quite a stretch.
