Ladell is only expendable...once we acquire a suitable replacement.
Do You think Betts is Expendable?Son Of Man 05-01-2009, 11:52 AM Ladell is only expendable...once we acquire a suitable replacement. GoSkins! 05-01-2009, 01:09 PM It's not as bad as you may think. Betts fumbles once every 73 touches. Portis fumbles once every 91 touches. Some other notables: Adrian Peterson fumbles once every 49 touches. (now this is a fumbling problem) Edgerrin James fumbles once every 79 touches. So Betts fumbles at a rate 20% higher than Portis. I may be in the minority, but to me that looks like you just made the point that Betts is a significant downgrade to Portis in that respect. And, the NFL average for 2007 is about 1 per 91 carries (just like CP!) To put it another way, we can expect Betts to fumble once every 3 games and expect Portis to fumble once ever 4 games (if they have equal carries). If they were equal runners, and I don't think Betts is as good as Portis, Betts statistically could costs us 1 more loss a year than Portis because of fumbles. I like Betts, but it seems clear that he needs to tighten up the fumble issue. But, that's just me. MTK 05-01-2009, 02:34 PM So Betts fumbles at a rate 20% higher than Portis. SBXVII 05-01-2009, 04:03 PM We all know Portis is the man. Unless he gets hurt. Betts is a great second stringer. Yes, he filled in admirably while Portis was hurt which is why I would keep him and he has the ability to be utilized as a KR/PR. Unless we find someone else who is as good or better he's on the team. I totally agree with those of you who keep saying Rock is a leader. No question. I totally agree with those who say Rock is one of the best special teamers. No question. The only issue I have is the fact he is not that great of a RB. The question I pose is if we could find someone else who can do KR and PR as good or better then Rock can we let him go? There is no questoin he's not a great leader, but we have leaders all over the field including special teams. If anyone was expendable in the RB position I would think it would be Rock only cause he is 3rd string, and only performs one job admirably and that being a KR. He does not even do the PR duties. If the team wanted a slasher/scat back then I would hope it is one of the two Aldridge or Dorsey to take over the 3rd stringer position. Then the team can play Portis, when he gets tired put Betts in, and if they need a change of pace put Aldridge or Dorsey in whoever wins the spot. Somewhere in there I would like to find a young RB for the future to groom to replace Portis and Betts. Now "IF" Mason should happen to step up and play better then Betts then keep Mason. I doubt that will happen as much of a Mason fan as I am. If they could find another RB who is younger to start to groom then fine. I remember recently the majority of you guys wanted the team to get younger. Now no one is expendable. Gmanc711 05-01-2009, 06:58 PM It's not as bad as you may think. (now this is a fumbling problem) Edgerrin James fumbles once every 79 touches. The thing with Betts is... he just seems to fumble at the worst god damn times in games. I can think of 3 times right off the top of my head where it cost us or could have cost us a game. This year vs Seattle, we were running out the clock, two mintues to go... fumble... 2007 vs Philadelphia, we had all the momentum in the world... Betts fumbled. 2006 vs St. Louis ... Granted, this game meant sh*t at the time cause we were way out of it, but right at the end of the game he fubmled, they came down scored, won in OT. 2006, it was at the begining of the game, again another meaningless one, agsint the Giatns to end the season, we were rolling down the field to start the game... Fumble, Giants return it almost the distance. Thats right off the top of my head too... I mean I like Betts, I dont want to see him go... but the fumbling kills me, because it just happens at the worst times... in addition, I think him and Portis are far to similar. I want to see a change of pace back, which I dont think Betts provides. MTK 05-01-2009, 09:59 PM Is there ever a good time to fumble? The Goat 05-01-2009, 10:26 PM Is there ever a good time to fumble? On the one yard line, the football can roll under the defenders feet and your teammate picks that sucker up for a touchdown. Ahhhh-haaaa! DoggDayAfternoon 05-02-2009, 12:59 AM Anybody is replaceable..and the rb market is a thick one. Lotus 05-02-2009, 01:02 AM Is there ever a good time to fumble? I'm sure that Betts tells himself, "Now is a good time to fumble. No one will mind..." :) |
