The final DC Pro Sports NFL Mock Draft (http://dcprosportsreport.com/mockdraftdatabase/nfl.html) for the 2009 NFL Draft. As always, any resemblance between these predictions and actual events is entirely coincidental. Enjoy.

Analysis: This isn't the pick I'd make, but the Lions seem to think they've found their franchise passer. Good luck.
02. St. Louis Rams: OT Jason Smith
Analysis: The best player in this draft.
03. Kansas City Chiefs: LB [B]Aaron Curry [Wake Forest]
Analysis: Could lead the NFL in tackles 10 times.
2BIG2BSKINNY 04-24-2009, 02:06 PM where is Rey Maualuga... not in the first round?
Monkeydad 04-24-2009, 02:42 PM I'd be happy with Ayers. Anyone but Sanchez, actually.
It's not that I don't think Sanchez could be good, I believe Campbell WILL be great if the line holds up. If the line fails again, so will ANY QB we have. It's just too large of a gamble in my opinion.
Sanchez COULD be a Carson Palmer or Matt Cassell, or he could be a Matt Leinart, Rob Johnson, John David Booty or TODD MARINOVICH.
Coincidently, he's the first USC QB to leave school early since draft bust, Todd Marinovich.
I believe Seattle is a perfect team to get Sanchez...for the player and the franchise.
The Goat 04-25-2009, 01:32 AM where is Rey Maualuga... not in the first round?
WTF!!! Just saw this mock. Rey falls completely out of the 1st round? I have to ask did this kid do something to piss off the media outlets? Jeez he had a fantastic college career and is the hardest hitter in the draft...yet somehow every team will grade him below the 1st round.
Lotus 04-25-2009, 01:37 AM Yes, it is hard to see Rey not taken in the first.
However, if we get Ayers as this draft predicts, I'd be a happy camper.

Haven't read up on Ayers much...I see Kiper lists him as the 3rd best DE in the draft and he should have the size to play LDE.
...drafting DE is a tough one for me. Important position for sure but especially w/ LDE it seems our system sort of dictates the performance: quash the run and collapse the pocket. Honestly I don't know if any of the college prospects will quash the run as well as a healthy Daniels/Wynn rotation w/ the exception of Tyson Jackson. Guy is a wall who can just move people. But Orakpo, Ayers etc is def the balls to the walls pass-rush option right? And w/ big Al in the middle now maybe pass-rushing focus is smarter.

Actually Ayers gets talked up more as a run-stuffer than as a pass rusher. However, I think he has the right combination of both size and speed to be good against both run and pass. I like Tyson Jackson too but IMO he is too big to have too much pass rush burst off of the corner. That having been said, I will celebrate with you if we draft Jackson because I think he will be a really good player.
i go back and forth about Orakpo and Ayers. I would love to have Orakpo's pass rush. But I think Ayers fits better in terms of a being wall against the run like we want in our LDE.
This is just Mayock's opinion, of course, but Mayock said Ayers will turn out to be the best defensive player in the draft. Whether or not that is true, Ayers gave Andre Smith fits in the regular season and had a really good Senior Bowl. When I saw him in the Senior Bowl I began to drool.

Interesting stuff man. Jeez we'd be stacked on the d-line if we take a true DE like Ayers or Jackson. Nice thought. Agree w/ you on Jackson's size being a trade-off...he's not going to beat any RTs around the end but in college it didn't matter cuz he collapsed the pocket so fast...not a lot of sacks but consistently forcing the QB to scramble out of the pocket. I like that combo w/ Al coming up the middle and Carter on the other edge.
The Goat 04-25-2009, 02:16 AM Well, three of the most recent mocks listed on the DCsportspro site have us taking Rey at 13. It gets me very excited but at the same time I realize it would almost certainly mean Marcus won't be back for sure...we wouldn't have any use for him.
...I still prefer one of the top four OTs if a guy falls to us over Rey (and then yes we have to re-sign Marcus) but if the four biggies are gone he is my top choice. With all we've invested in the defense we still, IMHO, don't have that one fiery player who blows shit up and changes the game in a single play. I'm not poo-pooing any our our guys...I think it's bull London didn't get the pro-bowl nod and I really believe we'll have a few guys from the defense go this this year. And I readily admit Rey will make mistakes...he'll miss part of the time. But the ability to blow people up, to make the "target" nervous about touching the pigskin, is something we sorely need to be a truly dominant defense and besides it's fun as hell to watch.

Their DL seriously helps the Giants to be as good as they are. With one of these combinations, we would rival them. We could beat people up front pretty badly. And with our capable secondary, we could have an amazing defense for some time to come. CRUNCH!
