ProFootballTalk.com - ‘Skins Talking Extension With McIntosh (http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/04/23/skins-talking-extension-with-mcintosh/)
Apparently, that $5.96 million in cap space is burning a hole in the Redskins’ loin cloths. (That’s an image we could live without.)
The ‘Skins are talking to linebacker Rocky McIntosh about a new deal.
According to agent Drew Rosenhaus, who recently was hired to represent McIntosh, a meeting occurred Thursday morning at Redskins Park regarding a possible contract extension.
McIntosh is entering the final year of his four-year rookie deal. He’s due to earn a base salary of $535,000 in 2009. The second-round pick from the 2006 draft appeared in 16 games last season, starting 15 of them.
I just have one question… why now?
The only thing I can think of is we're trying to make teams think we won't go LB with our 1st round pick... which means we probably will go LB with our first round pick. Your thoughts?

Good point. McIntosth doesn't need an extension now, and personally he hasn't really shown enough improvement to warrant and extension right now. I'd wait until after the season to even think about giving him a raise.
I don't think it has anything to do with the draft personally. Why not lock him up now when they have some leverage? He's coming off a sub-par year. If they wait til next year his price could be significantly higher.

If they would only apply the same logic to Campbell and Rogers..

I've heard that Rocky practically lived at Redskin Park this offseason and is a workout warrior. But I agree that this is one of the types of things that are done to throw teams off on who you're going to draft. There may be something to that. We'll soon find out.

I don't think that is the reason since Rocky plays different position.. Locking him up doesn't mean that he would fill in the another position..

Well they obviously aren't convinced they want to move forward with those guys in the future. JC mostly, the trade talks surrounding Rogers seem to have died down quite a bit.

Seems they aren't sold on either of those guys, which disappoints me.
If we don't draft Sanchez & JC has a good year, I think his chances at a re-up are pretty good. Rogers on the other hand, I don't know how good of a year he has to have. Are they waiting for his hands to improve?
He played really well last year, just got beat on some plays that really stood out cause he was on an island, e.g. baltimore game. The more I think about it, given Hall's big deal, it seems unlikely CR will be back in 2010 unless he's franchised.
McIntosh's demands can't be anywhere near what those guys will ask for. He's an avg. starting nfl OLB w/knee issues. This may just be Rosenhaus looking do something for his new client asap, and the skins are simply listening.

I don't know what a reasonable deal would be for rocky, but I hope one is worked out & he can stay healthy.
