ProFootballTalk.com - ‘Skins Talking Extension With McIntosh (http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/04/23/skins-talking-extension-with-mcintosh/)
I just have one question… why now?
The only thing I can think of is we're trying to make teams think we won't go LB with our 1st round pick... which means we probably will go LB with our first round pick. Your thoughts?
Occams razor. "The simplest explanation is usually the best one." Meaning we are trying like hell to trade JC and draft Sanchez.

If they are convinced he's healthy ok. They're motives are most likely two fold. Save cap and extend a player w/ some potential.

In general, talking contract extention for your your players is never a bad thing. And it's insane to think that this means Campbell and Rogers won't get extended later.
Whether or not McIntosh is deserving of an extension is a different issue. Clearly, the other two have lived up to expectations. McIntosh is the one of the three who has yet to.

Here's another reason we're not getting Sanchez, Mike Florio would have included the following sentence in this article: "The Washington Redskins are clearly making room to sign Mark Sanchez" if we were indeed getting him...
Shit, I spoke too soon (http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/04/23/sanchez-situation-getting-interesting/).

I don't think it has anything to do with the draft personally. Why not lock him up now when they have some leverage? He's coming off a sub-par year. If they wait til next year his price could be significantly higher.
yep, or jump ship

Cool, lets extend a guy who hasn't done a damned thing on the field yet, meanwhile we let self-made, great players like Antonio Pierce walk.

They are trying to shore up the LB core for the future.
The FO knows that next year's draft will be heavy in
future needs, so they are locking down a foundation,
something We haven't seen since CCasserly was GM.
it's a good look, especially when you have reasonably
young talent locked up aka Hall for 6, AH, Horton, Landry,
etc.
