This mock has us taking Orakp over Jackson and Rey...that would be retarded.

To each his own, I guess. Although I doubt Orakpo will be there for us, I think we've gotta grab him if he's there. I rate him above Jackson and Rey, and he's a better fit for our needs, as well, IMO. What's not to like about Orakpo?

Recurring knee injury to start...serious enough he's missed time two seasons in a row. In the NFL he and that knee will take much more abuse than seen in the past...so i guess on injury history alone I'd be wary of Orakpo. Secondly he's not at all a simple fit to our system. We require a lot from our OLBs, including the ability to cover well and make plays in space. Orakpo's not experienced in either thing. As a DE his explosiveness isn't elite so I doubt we get a serious boost to pass-rush, and he's not an elite run-stuffer as we need at LDE. I said somewhere else i think Orakpo would do alright @ RDE in our system (after AC moves on).

...Jackson fits our need @ LDE perfectly IMO. He's a monster run stuffer who collapses the pocket in a flash. Rey is more of a wildcard for us, especially in the short term as SLB, but jeez his playmaking ability is impressive.

...i won't bitch and moan if we take Orakpo just saying i really won't expect him to make a big impact for us.

I'm with you on that one. I read about his knee and I just kept thinking about E. James and M. Kelly. We really need an impact first rounder.

...btw I luv the Smith highlights above. What gets me is how dominant he is in action, just mauling opponents AND NEVER, EVER GIVING UP so it seems. Oher's highlights on youtube are also very impressive but you do see him "searching" at times or just like something has confused him. But then in the combine/pro day drills i think Oher looks much more crisp and in far better shape than Smith. I know it's totally unlikely we won't get to choose between the two but I guess i'll be very pleased if we draft either guy.

Smith is going to drop to us at #13. On the field he is nasty and I would be cool with the pick. As long as we don't trade up, take Sanchez, any RB, or undersized DE/LB.... I wont bitch too much..
Hmmm...I guess I like Smith/Oher/Rey/Orakpo/Jackson if we stay at #13

It's been reported that Eugene Monroe has knee problems as well, and according to Peter King, he failed the physical of a number of NFL teams, yet he still will be picked up in the top 5, if not the top 10.

Heard this too...initially i thought Monroe would be a "realistic" guy to grab if we traded up (even though Danny/Vinny wouldn't think so) but w/ the knee thing there's no way in hell I'd take him. I dunno to me it's like any top 10 or even top 15 pick should meet qualifications of elite prospect but also clean injury history. The injury thing just multiplies the bust factor that much more.

Well I guess the question is that if Eugene Monroe were to fall to #13, would you take him?

On a different note, looks like BJ Raji is in the clear.

Apparently there is a lot of doubt whether Orakpo can play in a 3-4. I've read from a few sources while speed and strength are adequate. He doesn't have the hips to cover. Better said, he is poor at major changes in direction. So he might have to play End in a 4-3.
