GMScud 04-21-2009, 11:16 PM I'd be surprised if Jackson was there at 13, but yeah if he's there then there probably isn't a better fit for our team than him.
Agreed. I see a run on DE's starting with Green Bay at #9. If that happens, we'll probably get a crack at one of the top 4 tackles, or a DE like Ayers or Maybin. I have a feeling Orakpo, Jackson, and E.Brown will be gone. That being the case, I'll stick with Oher at #13.
SmootSmack 04-21-2009, 11:25 PM Talk about a player rocketing up the draft board...but in Jackson's case I think it's smart scouting. He's maybe the safest pick in this year's draft along w/ Jason Smith and Aaron Curry. Watching his highlights it's very impressive how quickly Jackson collapses the pocket...personally I prefer him over Orakpo.
I know, a couple of months ago I was all about trading down for Duke and Tyson Jackson. Who knew we'd have to potentially trade up for Jackson.
But he's the best pure 4-3 DE, as opposed to the many other hybrids out there. Chiefs seem pretty keen on getting him though. And if they don't take him, Cincy almost surely will.
backrow 04-21-2009, 11:31 PM I like Orakpo because he can play LB and DE and would basically fill two needs with one shot.
My 2nd choice is Smith. I know he's immature but on the field the dude is a beast. He just needs to grow up a bit.
I like Oher/Smith, to help the OL, then Orakpo. I figure both Smith and Orakpo and probably Oher (My poll vote) will all be gone at 13.

The Chiefs are keen on Tyson Jackson at #3?? Seems to me they could move down a few spots and still easily land him. And we all know Pioli is a draft-day mover. I think Spagnuolo is probably lobbying hard for Aaron Curry at #2, in which case I think KC either takes Jason Smith or moves down. I'm sure Pioli would love more picks, but he could do a lot worse than giving his franchise QB a franchise LT. They could be pair for a decade.
You don't think Cincy will go tackle? Andre Smith seems like a trendy pick lately for the Bungles. Based on your info, seems to me we'll likely have one of the big 4 OTs to choose from.

No, not necessarily at 3. They'd like to trade down and get him.
Depending on how things shake out with the top pick, Spags could be looking at either Smith or Curry. Although the Cincinnati Enquirer, who I trust as pretty reliable, speculates Monroe going 2nd. Personally, I think they'll shock everyone and take Sanchez

Tackle definitely makes the most sense, but there's been some rumblings that they may take Raji or Jackson. I think they have to and will go OT...but I'd keep an eye out for Beanie Wells or Knowshon there.

Cleveland has incentive to go down all the way down to 13 only if Crabtree and Sanchez are gone, because they appear to want Sanchez at least as bad as we do.
Basically, we're not going to be able to trade into the top five, unless someone like Kansas City lets us come up, and then uses our stuff to go back up to 8 or 9. But what could they get from us that's of value to another team? Not our first round pick next year. So that doesn't make any sense.
I'm not seeing anyway we get in position for Sanchez unless Danny pays OVER the suggested value (literally an Eli Manning type package), which would be patently insane. I just don't see that.
Of course, Sanchez could fall. The draft could break down like:
Stafford
J. Smith
Ty. Jackson
Curry
Crabtree
A. Smith
...
And then the next 4 teams would all be fielding offers to get in position for Sanchez, in which case, Danny could make a move for a package like our third and next years second for the right to draft Sanchez. But, again, the Jets have more ammunition than us, so they might outbid us not unlike the Bears.
SmootSmack 04-21-2009, 11:57 PM My guess is Campbell would be part of any trade discussion

Though I know it won't ever happen, hypothetically, would it help or hurt JC's stock w/ other franchises at this point if he came out tomorrow asking to be traded? I'm just curious.

Sanchez number #2, huh? Could happen I guess. Josh Freeman would love that.
I've heard Eugene Monroe has a degenerative knee issue that could catch up with him after 3-5 years. Anyway, I think if Stafford goes 1, J.Smith is the safer of the top 2 tackles.
It wouldn't shock me to see Cincy go RB. Benson got a modest extension, but he's not exactly a safe bet. But it just seems like they always desperately need help on defense.
