From the Las Vegas Review Journal, via ESPN 980's Sports Reporters:
Spotted....at N9NE Steakhouse (Palms) on Saturday: [Hugh] Hefner, celebrating his 83rd birthday with girlfriends Karissa and Kristina Shannon and Crystal Harris and "Girls Next Door" Kendra (with her NFL boyfriend Hank Baskett) and Bridget, Eva Longoria, Jamie Foxx, Joe Don Rooney of Rascal Flatts, and Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder with star running back Clinton Portis.

I guess my dreams of drafting a new RB are out the window. CP will probably be our RB coach one day.

I was more jealous than uncomfortable. DS and Portis weren't embarassing the team. Obviously, this isn't the a party that Zorn is going to be at, but I imagine other high profile names were there. And it was a "respectable" event.

Snyder made his money in PR & marketing, yet he doesn't speak to the press much & he's rarely seen outside of Skins games, w/the exception of dinners at mortons w/free agents.
So I think he's more than aware of the publicity aspect. What I don't like about it is it seems another example of how CP is above the coach. Snyder seems to be promoting CP's career inside & outside of football, trying to make him like Riggo was.
I seriously wonder if CP's large no. of carries are the direct result of DS telling Zorn to run him more. YOu re-sign Betts but then never give him more than 2-3 carries, even when CP is banged up? I think Snyder wanted CP to lead the league in rushing.
Personally I doubt Danny gets involved when it comes to coaching decisions.

I don't see what the huge deal is that they were both in Las Vegas. They were probably in Las Vegas that weekend because of the Country Music Awards which Dan Snyder owns (I think they took place April 5th) and Clinton Portis attended last year and said he was a fan of and wanted to return.

DS needs to have good relationships with his players, but has to keep them at "arm's length". It's one thing to have dinner with a player and his family, it's another to be spotted at a Playboy party "with" a player. DS needs to grow up, put on his big-boy pants and realize his actions speak volumes to the coaching staff and players. This type of behavior IMO enables Portis and his rants in the media.
On the one hand DS can talk about how bad he wants a SB trophy, but he's unwilling to make all the sacrifices necessary to get one; including checking his ego, stop the stupid "stargazing", and stop undermining the FO and coaching staff. Unacceptable.
DS needs to get a keyring or something and keep it with him at all times with a "WWJG" on it. Whenever he's about to do something stupid he needs to pull it out and think...What Would Joe Gibbs do? Gibbs wouldn't be at a Playboy party and he certainly wouldn't be there with a player.

I don't know one way or the other, but when CP was unhappy & called Zorn a "genius" the next thing we hear was that CP met w/Snyder, then Snyder & Zorn talked.
At the least, Snyder's coddling of Portis puts Zorn in an awkward position. It sounded like Zorn was unhappy w/CP, but then had to retract some of his statements about him missing practice after CP mouthed off on J. Thompson's show & then went to DS.
Snyder might not "meddle" the way some have accused him, but he definitely wants to market his team a certain way, as that is his business expertise. Seems that he's given Portis disproportionate of $ & personal leeway in the process.
Does that mean he's telling Zorn to give CP 25 carries & Betts only a few each game? I don't know, but I bet DS loved the sound of hearing "the NFL's leading rusher, Clinton Portis" when the team was on a roll in the first half of 08.
