Monksdown 05-14-2009, 11:24 AM Seth Wickersham examines the art of being a backup QB - ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?id=4045554)
Pretty decent thread bout a quarterback accepting the fact he will be a backup.
Excerpt from it.
"First, he says, a backup has to be pure in his motives so that he earns the starter's trust. Only then does the No. 1 guy not feel threatened. For instance, last season Campbell, playing in his seventh offensive system in eight seasons going back to college, had a few questions about a pass-protection scheme, questions he was too embarrassed to ask. So Collins, being a friend first and a position rival second, asked the coaches for him. "It works much better when guys are working together on the same team," Collins says."
That's great for Collins. And it just further illustrates how big of a p---y JC is. He was embarrassed to ask about a pass-protection scheme??? Do what!?
Everyone looks to the positive in how Jason didn't respond like Cutler. I think it illustrates a flaw that Jason has in his personality. He's too soft spoken, and he doesnt stand up for himself. Where is the confidence?

Where is the confidence?Cooley indicated on NFLN this week that Jason has stepped up and is taking the reigns. Because he was reluctant to ask what he felt may have been a "stupid" question makes him a p---y?? That's a reach. Also, it's great for Collins to do that for JC, not so great to tell an ESPN reporter about it.
Check out the line above my avatar. Better get with the program and start rooting for JC. Like it or not, he's the man for '09. If he's not successful, the Skins won't be successful.
Monksdown 05-14-2009, 11:59 AM Totally agree with you on our success being directly linked to Jason's growth. That's why im settling in for another long mediocre season.

So I guess you would have been happier if he demanded a trade and whined his way outta town?
Monksdown 05-14-2009, 12:14 PM Not at all. I just knew he was going to react close to how he did because it's in his personality to keep quiet. I'm just worried, it's not because he classy, but because he doesnt know how to stand up for himself. That quote about Todd Collins asking the coaches a pass protection question because Jason was embarrassed really really sucks.
Havent you ever gotten frustrated with the same game face he has, win or lose? TD or Int. I see no emotion.
The no emotion thing doesn't really hold much water with me and really it's a baseless subjective complaint some fans seem to cling to. He didn't exactly keep quiet either, he did let it known that he was frustrated about what was going on.
In the end it's all about performance and leading by example. A fiery personality doesn't mean shit if you can't back it up.
I think it takes more balls to stand tall in the face of adversity and take the high road vs. bitching and whining to get what you want. I guarantee that his teammates have a lot more respect for him now with the way he has handled things this offseason.

Confidence means you don't have to make a show to stand up for yourself, just go out and do what needs to be done.

What are you talking about? He did what a LEADER does when faced with adversity. Rather than talk about, he was doing something about it. During the Cutler madness day he was at Redskins Park, doing his weight work and throwing to receivers, like a leader should be doing. Talk and emotion are way overrated. It has nothing to do with 'not knowing how to stick up for himself'. If that was the case he would have stayed at home rather than face the questions he got of 'what are you doing here'? His response was perfect, 'I am the QB of this team until told otherwise.' Bullies and weaklings always feel the need to 'stick up for themselves', leaders lead by actions.
You're reading WAY too much into the Collins thing. If the story came out that he asked a question for something he should have known the reply would probably be 'what a dumbass, he can't even learn basic plays'.

I see no emotion.Since I know that no one is crazy enough to base a player evaluation off of a throwaway tidbit in someone's column that's written to show a character trait of a totally different player, I'm going to assume you have inside information about Campbell the person that the rest of us aren't privy to.
Like, I think if you were his shrink, you would be able to develop an informed opinion on this.
I like Jason, so I was hoping you could tell us about his charity work or something.

I just got out of a mtg., during which I wanted to ask a question but decided not to. As my boss once said, in college they tell you 'there are no dumb questions' but in the working world, there are plenty of dumb questions.
Sometimes, it's best to think first & see if you can get the answer w/out asking for it in the middle of something. Granted, he's the QB & has got to know more than anyone else. So, really this comes down to study habits, not personality.
If you just said that you thought he wasn't prepared & plays like he isn't prepared, that's at least a reasonable judgement or educated guess. But that isn't a personality flaw. He had enough pride that he didn't want to look uninformed in front of his teamates, that doesn't sound like a personality flaw to me.
Monksdown 05-14-2009, 02:50 PM I just felt like stirring the pot a bit. I honestly didn't put much thought into my statements. I retract my uninformed analysis of our flacid quarterback.
