Ok, so let's assume we take Smith/Oher at 13. Who would you hope falls to us in the 3rd round? It's too late to find a top DE or LB imo, but I see that as a prime spot to get one of the better Centers or Guards, someone who we could count on as a starter a year from now, after Buges has had a good while to scream obscenities at them in practice. We should be able to fill a need with this pick.
My hopeful 3rd rd picks would be:
Eric Wood, C, Louisville
6'3" 310lbs
Antoine Caldwell, C, 'Bama
6'3" 310
Either one of these guys would be an upgrade. Caldwell is more likely to actually be there in the 3rd. He is smart, a team leader, and if an O-lineman can start in the SEC for 4 years, that is almost like NFL experience. Also, if we took A. Smith in the 1st, the O-line would potentially be 3/5ths Crimson Tide!
Craig Urbik, OG, Wisconsin
6'5" 328
Herman Johnson, OG, LSU
6'7" 364
Urbik has 'Hog' written all over him, but Herman The House would be an interesting project for Bugel. Again, no O-lineman from small schools, a la Chad Rinehart. Nothing personal, but I want to see how these guys fared going against the kind of size and speed they will see in the pros. SEC, Big 10, Big 12, that is where to find O-lineman.
I'm not really big on college ball, but I did watch an LSU game and Herman Johnson stuck out to me...he's a beast. Could be an excellent pro with a little work.
