Broncos to trade Cutler

What's upsetting people the most about this alleged deal? Is it losing draft picks potentially? Is it just the idea of change again? It's the fact that everything that can be said about Cutler can be said about Campbell, from a football perspective. Skinsfan69 points out that Cutler is better. I don't disagree. But the allure, the reason to go get Cutler, to pay the premium it costs to get him...that's stuff we already have in Campbell. Going to get Cutler is the very definition of spinning our wheels in place.

The question becomes: how much is it worth to go out and get a QB that is not Jason Campbell, but doesn't change the type of situation that we have at the QB position? It sounds like a stupid question, and to an extent, it is. Cutler brings a totally different dynamic to the offense, but at the end of the day, will likely not be much more successful than Campbell will.

Problem is, the answer to the question appears to be a sizable amount. But only because the Redskins don't appear to be approaching this from an angle that makes any sense. They want to know how much it will cost them to get Cutler. The proper answer, speaking purely football, is "who cares?" We shouldn't even be discussing someone elses problem. But we're very serious about doing what it takes to get him here.

So we get Cutler. Super Bowl? Hardly. Franchise QB? Yes, but, at what cost?

I agree with your post but there have been situations where the team didn't get a player they wanted to trade for:

- Lance Briggs
- Dre Bly
- Chad Johnson
- Anquan Boldin
We never got to the point where they Skins were confirming interest and huddling in SNyder's office for days. He liked Briggs but there wasn't anything to be done...plus Gibbs still had the reigns. The other three were only rumored and no deals were even speculated.

Yeah. Once Snyder starts working the deal, he's going to do something. He HAS to do something. He seems strangely unable to walk away from the table, which is an odd quality in a suppossedly great business mind.

I hear that. Once you entertain any deal you have to be prepared to walk away.

...well said.

Did anyone else see this from Glazer:

"Any team that trades for Cutler also may have to deal with demands from (Cutler agent Bus) Cook for a new contract. Cutler has three years remaining on a six-year rookie deal that could yield as much as $48 million."

That doesn't sound realistic does it? He's still got three years and wants a new one after one pro bowl season in which his team flopped at the end? If anything THE TEAM should be wanting a new deal that's less expensive.

This is all a big mistake.

Carlos Rodgers now in the mix as trade bait.
Early morning Cutler update (http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afcwest/0-3-1896/Early-morning-Cutler-update.html)

Shit, unlike Campbell, Rogers will complain about this. Great. BTW, shouldn't Florio be gloating about all of this? Did he go to sleep?

Also I like Smoot as a 3rd corner a heck of a lot more then him being the unquestioned #2.

Even better as a 4th.

Cutler is from Tennesee. Hopefully they will get it done. That can be their payback for us getting Haynesworth.

The difference is this time around our potential trade partner is hell bent on trading the player in question. At least 3 of these guys went back to business as usual after there flirtation with our front office.
