GusFrerotte 03-31-2009, 11:45 PM Wow, i just saw this on Sportnite.
I know Vinnie said he would do it but i'm officially afraid for Campbell right now.
I would be surprised if we did it(trade for Cutler). Zorn just gave that interview saying JC was the man ,etc. If Danny and Vinny went for Cutler now it would mean the whole organization is out of sync, unless that is Zorn was lying through his teeth and going along with his boss.
djnemo65 03-31-2009, 11:45 PM I think the real question is: what does Brett Favre think of all this?
Oh God. I couldn't take another offseason of that.
GusFrerotte 03-31-2009, 11:46 PM Like I've said time and time before if we don't pull the trigger on Cutler if he's available then it's our fault if we struggle on offense again this season! Jason is a decent QB and a nice guy but he is NOT a franchise QB and Cutler would make us a contender today! I hope we get him!!!!!!
I agree with your Campbell comments, but not sure if we should go for Cutler. He is not handling this thing in a professional manner.
Daseal 03-31-2009, 11:52 PM GMScud, you couldn't be more wrong about the Cutler situation. Cutler certainly wasn't happy to hear his name floating in trade talks. Especially since he put in an enormous effort to be at the facility all off season learning the new offense, etc. However, that's not what forced him into shying away from the Broncos.
Jay Cutler initiated the phone call between McDaniels and Cutler. During this phone call McDaniels continued to be a douche. Cutler said all he wanted to hear is that going forward, he was the QB. No one LIKES being discussed in trade talks, but they understand it's a business more than anyone. Mort wrote a great article on it that I posted a while back that shines light on the whole situation.
Instead of taking bits and pieces of a story out of context, educate yourself just a little bit in workings around the league. McDaniels has handled this situation very, very poorly.
Lets be honest here, those of you saying Cutler wasn't that good. Of his interceptions, 75% came in the 4th quarter when behind. This means they're throwing and everyone in the stadium knows it. Secondly, they were the 2nd ranked offense in the NFL, they lost what -- 5 running backs, six maybe -- during the course of the season. And their defense was absolutely atrocious. If the Broncos just had the 15th ranked defense they would have easily won that division and been dangerous in the playoffs.
Campbell is a solid player -- but he's no Cutler.

dirtythirty 03-31-2009, 11:59 PM I would take cutler anyday over campbell. I dont think he is a punk. He deserves to be treated like a #1 qb. I would love to see him leave Denver and them suck next year. Watch us blow another season because Campbell can't be solid all year long. I feel Cutler is right for wanting out. Snyder show him the money!
GridIron26 04-01-2009, 12:02 AM Good post Dasel..
I really believe that Cutler is really good QB; as for the situation, I think both parties played the whole thing poorly.. McDaniel and Broncos should have speak to Cutler or even at least let Cutler know that they are considering about trading him away before going out and try to trade Cutler.. Cutler made it into HUGE deal and his stubbornness got in the way, as well..
I'm wondering to see why lot of people seem to believe that McDaniel is going do well? Granted, he proved it when he made Cassell look like a star last season.. But that was in NE Patriots, along with BB and players around him.. If I remember correctly, none of current head coaches that came from BB's crew became successful head coach?
Dirtbag59 04-01-2009, 12:05 AM Payback for Elway and the Colts baby. Seriously though it's really amazing me how things seem to be randomly balancing lately. Anyway I hope he goes to the J-E-T-S jets jets jets. I honestly don't want another top tier QB in the conference. It's hard enough for us to get into the playoffs as it is.

Campbell is a solid player -- but he's no Cutler.Didn't all but one of Campbell's interceptions come while behind? Is that not a greater percentage than 75%?
It's a good point that defense quality skews interception totals and Cutler certainly had no breaks from his defense, but it's not like those INTs aren't his fault. He's a career 3 to 2 TD/INT guy. That might not be his ceiling, but I doubt Campbell's ceiling is the 2 to 1 he's currently at.
SmokinSkins 04-01-2009, 12:08 AM My First Post,
So take it easy on me dudes.
I would trade for Cutler in a New York Minute. He has shown what he can do, and that is light up the scoreboard.
Campbell has also shown what he can do. I would expect Campbell to improve as the years go on. But what you see now is what your going to get. There will be no "break out" performance.
You may see some great days, and you will see some very average days.
Just like what you have seen for how many years?
How many Games has Campbell Pulled out for the Skins?
Name Them....
GusFrerotte 04-01-2009, 12:09 AM Yeah, you're right. We should trade a lot of valuable crap for someone who is younger, less-mature, and has a shorter fuse. That's how you build for the here and now!
Campbell isn't the "ONE" Tripp, never was, never will be. He is a decent QB, that will never get this team past maybe the wild card round at best. Sure he has had to learn a lot of new systems, but that is the least of his shortcomings. Not too many folks outside of Skins fandom thinks he is all that either, and I agree. He is good, but not a franchise QB type of guy. I rooted for Gus when he was here, but he didn't get the job done, I rooted for Ramsey too, but he didn't get the job done, and then I was pissed at Gibbs for keeping the fossil Brunell in instead of giving JC a chance. Face it, we have been stuck with subpar to average quarterbacking since Rypien left. That being said I think we do keep Jason this season and let him groom Colt for 2010 or 2011 or somehow draft one of the wonder kids in 2010. Cutler is an upgrade over Campbell, but could be more of a distraction than anything. We are better off keeping JC til we land another potential franchise QB or have Colt be the man in 2010 if he really shows promise. Another thing we have to realize is that this team has too many question marks offensively to really be a contender in '09 in my mind or even 2010. I won''t be surprised if we have to wait for Campbell's succesor's succesor til we get to be solid winners again.
