freddyg12 03-31-2009, 11:58 AM I would think he's the favorite to start IF he's fully recovered & didn't lose much from the injury. At first I though Daseal's post was extreme, but as I think about it, Daniels could still very easily be cut by the end of camp. He's 36 & coming off a bad injury.
Any of our DEs could be cut by the end of camp w/the exception of AC. Its a potentially crowded, but not deep position. If we get a decent DE in the draft or an udfa they'll have to decide whether to keep 2 guys w/roughly the same ability - Wynn & Daniels - or cut one of the speed rushing 'project' guys - Jackson or Buzbee. Or maybe Wilson will be the odd man out. He didn't get much pt under Blache & really didn't have much of a season, other than on spec. teams.
HOw many de's did they keep last year?
Unless we draft someone I can't see Daniels getting cut, unless of course he's just not healthy enough but that shouldn't be an issue. Who is going to beat him out? Wynn?
Good signing, good deal. He's respected and liked on the team; he provides valuable leadership in the locker room and tutorage to the young guys. It would be a nice if he could pressure a quarterback once in a while, but beggars can't be choosers. Fact is, he's hard, he's tough, he's a role player. Good signing.
Daseal 03-31-2009, 12:49 PM Matty, I agree he's penciled in as a starter -- I just don't see him making it through training camp healthy enough to start.
calia 03-31-2009, 12:49 PM I agree with this move too. With Brandon Jacobs out there, I like to have a D line with some heft to it. Running into a line with Haynesworth, Griffin, and Daniels on it would have to hurt.

yes, if we draft someone I think it's a very realistic possibility that one or the other gets cut. If Jackson is all that Vinny believes he is & Buzbee comes back strong & they like him (I have no clue as to his status), they keep Wilson & AC, + Wynn & Daniels, that's 6 DEs.
I would think that if a guy they really like is on the board w/our 5th that they would take him, regardless of needs.
I'd say right now he's penciled in as a starter.
Take it to the bank!
AND if he can stay healthy, he and Wynn might kick some ass
Monksdown 03-31-2009, 02:17 PM I like those qualifiers. If he stays healthy, he and wynn might kick some ass. So if he's healthy(he's old), he and another player(also old), might combine to kick someone's ass(the trainer maybe).
All joking aside. If you've got the room, for the money, it's a good deal for us to have these two at the price we've got them. Especially knowing the system in and out, and with Blache's insistence on rotation.
Paintrain 03-31-2009, 02:20 PM More ammo leading towards drafting a LB in the 1st round. I doubt they would have signed 2 DE within the last 2 weeks and Cerrato going on the Doc show saying that Heyer is their RT and then using a #1 pick on one of those positions.
All that being said, we could certainly do worse on 1st and 2nd down.
Defensewins 03-31-2009, 02:40 PM They (Wynn, Daniels and Heyer) are on the roster as cheap insurance/backup plan.
If the FO decides to keep this pick and use it, it might end up being something completely unexpected. It seems most likely all of the DE's, OT's and OLB's that are worth the 13th pick value or above will be gone.
However there might be some very talented value RB's (Portis is getting old) and QB's (plan B if Campbell fails) that might tempt our FO to use the pick.
