Mark Sanchez at 13th?

Drafting a QB is the worst. It will be two years from now before we ever know if this was a bust. It seems like in the past ten years (not counting Flacco and Ryan) 1st round QB's have busted. It is all "hype" go back to Alex Smith, Joey Harrington, J. Russell, etc...everyone of those guys where just going to be awesome according to the pre-draft hype and now look at them, JC has them all beat.

1. If Snyder really wants Sanchez, he trades up with the Chiefs. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't one of Scott Pioli's people who were the inside sources telling McShay that the Seahawks wanted Sanchez (thereby making the Chiefs #3 pick the route to Sanchez, not the Jags #8 pick). Pioli:

A. was the co-architect of the Patriots, who always traded down and accumulated picks,

B. knows that when the Danny sees something shiny, he'll do everything in his power to get it. And that means this year's number 1, next year's number 1, and possibly next year's #3.

Good points, but I could see the Chiefs more likely trading with the Jaguars. Because if they fall past the Broncos they may not get the guy they supposedly really want-Tyson Jackson. Plus, I think there's a really good chance that Sanchez doesn't fall past the Rams at #2

2. This is pure speculation, but I wonder if Snyder sees enormous marketing potential in having the first Hispanic superstar in the NFL. I'm not sure what the demographics are on hispanic football following, but not only is there a large Hispanic population here in the Washington area, the possibility of selling Sanchez Redskins jerseys in southern California where there is no team, where Sanchez went to college, and where there are of course millions of first and second generation Hispanics new to american football in an area without a football team... I mean, again, I'm just spit-balling here, but yeah, you've gotta think that the first Hispanic Franchise QB is going to be a goldmine. And you've gotta think Snyder knows this. I mean, he's taking the guy out to eat... this thing's getting done... utterly ridiculous.

More good points, although technically there already exists Tony Romo if you're looking at Hispanic superstars in the NFL (deserved or not). But yeah, I mean how many times have I been saying this past week that every year (and more so than this year) marketability and economic considerations (ticket sales, jersey sales, etc) play a large part in every team's draft board (perhaps ours more than some others, such as Buffalo). I wouldnt' make such a big deal out of the dinner thing though, that's kind of standard fare at this point in the "recruiting" game.

I am against trading up...but if they trade up for a player other then a QB I will be even more upset. They can fill a position of need by staying right at #13 which i hope they do. The ONLY reason to part with future draft picks in a trade-up is if they have identified Sanchez as a franchise QB.

Peter King's MMQB leads with the notion that Snyder is determined to get Sanchez. Mark Sanchez, Daniel Snyder, Scott Pioli pivotal in NFL Draft - Peter King - SI.com (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/peter_king/04/20/draft/index.html?eref=writers)

King also makes the point though that he spoke to "someone close to Snyder" this weekend (that probably means Snyder himself) and that someone said Snyder was not giving up the first rounder next year to get such a deal done. So we'll see

It's a long shot, but what if somehow we're able to get Sanchez and use other picks (and maybe players) to move up a bit and still fill some other needs with quality draftees? How would you feel then?

I just don't like the idea of drafting Sanchez, period. It's going to create a season long distraction. From the moment camp opens we'll be hearing about when is Sanchez going to get his chance... the first bad game JC has the Sanchez talk will heat up. Hell even if JC is playing well people will want to talk about what the long term plans are for Sanchez. Until he gets on the field, it will be a major talking point.

Nobody loves a QB controversy quite like DC and we'll have yet another epic one on our hands. I just don't like it.

I think we're going to fool everyone and actually trade down for Josh Freeman...just kidding.

Yeah, I don't like the idea of drafting Sanchez unless it's coupled with a trade of Campbell and we just say "Ok Mark, you're the man now dog" And then we just have a Derek Anderson/Brady Quinn thing with Sanchez and Brennan.

With our next picks coming in the 3rd and the 5th you won't be moving up much on that alone; what position do we find ourselves deep enough at to be able to use a backup/pick on and ship away a player for a good pick? I mean we've got some potential in some young guys but not very many studs, on top of that we overvalue some of our guys (wouldn't get much for ARE, not just picks, but probably interest either, especially at his salary). Kind of a shitty way to look at it but I'm just not sure who we could use as any decent trade bait without shipping off 2-3 players for a single decent pick. Maybe we'd have something a little more "certain" in a later round, but I don't know that the risk would be worth it.

Yeah I guess if it's going to happen, might as well go all the way and just get rid of JC now and plug in Sanchez right away. That would at least take care of any QB controversy and the team could move forward right away.

Seems like it would be the logical thing to do; of course we wouldn't get much for Campbell nor give him the chance to raise his stock in this coming year. But if we keep Campbell and did draft Sanchez, Campbell does very well, you're looking at getting rid of one of them in the not so distant future. Way too much money tied up into a single position otherwise.

Peter King is saying that point wise (I know that doesn't mean a whole lot) we'd have to give our 1st, 3rd & 5th, plus next years 1st to trade up to number 3?

That's frickin terrible. If we do that, it's gonna be awfully hard to watch the draft for me. If we were to trade up, we have to find a way to do it without using all of our picks.

Are we doing this knowing we could get a 2nd (unlikely) or 3rd for Campbell to another team?

So we'd nbasically have a 2nd rounder, and what's our other pic, 7th round? We'd have a 1,2 & 7. No way we are gonna fill all of our needs with that.

I keep telling myself that this is a smoke screen, but the more I hear what's being discussed with Snyder being smitten, and us trading up, it make me wanna hurl.
