Disagree. I think we'll go RB at some point in this draft. We need a change of pace for Portis. We've got to give him 5 or so less carries per game this year for durability purposes, and Betts just isn't a good replacement at this point. Kory Sheets or Javon Ringer. Both would very solid additions. If only we had that 2nd and/or 4th rounder.

Funny you should mention it. The RB position coach earlier in the offseason mentioned he would like a change of pace back. Like a Scat back. We did pick up two in the offseason already though.

I would be all for keeping one of the new RB's as a change of pace. Keep the other on practice squad. Then go after a big bruising RB to spell Portis once and a while. Then get rid of both Rock and Betts...perhaps in trades.

Like it or not, Portis IS our bruising RB. He's the guy we pound between the tackles. Hell, he's the guy we pound every down period. You mentioned that Stump Mitchell said we need a scat back. I agree with him. As much as I'd love to see Dominick Dorsey and/or Anthony Aldridge to pan out, I'm just not sure.

That seems to be a recurring theme lately -- many have lost faith in Ladell Betts. The real problem is that Betts never got enough carries in '08 to justify this feeling.

There really isn't any point in drafting another RB if he's only going to get 60 or 70 attempts all season while Portis gets over 300.

If we get a good enough change of pace back Portis would noth have to take 300 a season and about 35-45 of those carries can go to the other guy.

Playing for three different Redskin HCs, and in four different offenses, Betts only once in his career touched 100 carries.

So is Portis overworked because the coaches want him to be overworked, and we're wasting Betts' talents? Or is Betts only getting 4-5 carries per game because we play a lot of close games and Betts represents a significant downgrade from Portis that needs to be corrected?

I think the coaches know that Betts doesn't really add much to the offense when he is in there. He can do 2 things, run straight ahead and catch swing passes. He's not a threat on the stretch plays, he can't block anyone and isn't much of a threat to catch the ball anywhere else other than the flats.

He played himself into a nice contract a couple of years ago when Portis was hurt and good for him, but he's just a guy-nothing special.

Ladell Betts is going to be 30 this season, Mike Sellers 34, Rock 30 by the end of the season. At some point they're going to need to address depth at the running back position

Wow...in retrospect Ladell really wasted the best years of his career by resigning here. I wonder if he would do that over again. There were rumors that some teams would have signed him as a starter if he hit free agency.

My Prediction:

-The Browns trade Edwards to the Giants for a 1st and 3rd round pick.
-The Redskins trade Santana Moss, our 1st round pick, and our third round pick to the Browns for the #5 overall selection.
-The Redskins trade our 2010 first round pick for a 2009 2nd round pick.
-The Redskins trade Jason Campbell to the Jets for their 3rd and 4th Round picks (they don't have a natural 4th rounder - its ours for Kendall, so we're really taking this one back).

The Redskins Select:

1. QB Mark Sanchez, USC
2. OT/OG Duke Robinson, Oklahoma OR G/C Max Unger, Oregon
3. DE Paul Krueger, Oregon
4. CB Greg Toler, St Pauls
5. RB Antoine Smith, Florida State (serious home run threat)
6. LB/WR
7. LB/WR

Ok, i think i had way too much coffee this morning, lol. Seriously, that was all wild speculation and I don't see any of it really happening - except trading with the Browns for Sanchez. I wholeheartedly believe the Skins are zeroing in on Sanchez and will do whatever they can to acquire him - whether they succeed or not remains to be seen.

I know you were just having fun with this but the thought of trading next years #1 for a #2 this years sickens me. Out of everything you said that was the one I found most objectionable.
