T.O.Killa 04-15-2009, 11:31 PM Who would take Stafford at 13. Lotus 04-15-2009, 11:41 PM I think we have to play Big AL at DE. We have plenty of DT's, and there is nobody worthy of the #13 pick at DE. AND nobody on the roster who gives us anything at DE other than AC and maybe Daniels IF he is healthy. It's not like Big Al wouldn't be effective there. I like the idea of moving Big Al around on passing downs. But he is not fast enough to be a full-time DE on running plays. Folks would just run outside around him on 1st down. There's a reason why he's always played primarily inside. I think it would be better to add a real, badass DE and leave Big Al to clog the middle, even if we got Raji. mrreddman 04-15-2009, 11:53 PM A badass DE like who? All the big time DE's in the draft are too small to play RDE for us. Ayers? Jackson? They have the size but dont overly excite me either, especially at #13. I think it is a little easier said than done just to run wide on AH at DE....and that's what our LB(whoever he may be), Landry and Horton are for....chase down them backs outside. Im sure Blatche is smart enough to devise a scheme to handle that. Paintrain 04-16-2009, 12:00 AM I'm getting the feeling more and more that we're going to do something stupid and go hard after Sanchez. I really don't get the line of thinking with Snyder. I know it's nothing new, but it's still maddening. I was reluctantly OK with the Cutler chase but c'mon man, why all of the love for a kid that's started 16 games, his own coach didn't think should have come out and is considered a project that's going to need 2-3 years before he's a solid QB. Seems like a wasted pick rather than a needed pick. I was listening to the ESPN Draft podcast with Kiper and McShay (NFL Football Teams, Scores, Stats, News, Standings, Rumors - National Football League - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/nfl/)) earlier and about the 25 minute mark they talk about the Redskins and Sanchez. Sounds like if he's there at #13, he's a Redskin. Beemnseven 04-16-2009, 12:14 AM I'm getting the feeling more and more that we're going to do something stupid and go hard after Sanchez. Sounds like if he's there at #13, he's a Redskin. For what it's worth, Todd McShay on Mike & Mike in the Morning today said that Jacksonville is starting to sound like they'd be willing to trade out of the #8 spot and that the Jets could be the team that bites because they want Sanchez. I was okay with the Cutler idea too, but only because I'm getting more and more skeptical about Jason Campbell. Now that the Cutler thing is over, it would be absurd to dump Campbell in favor of yet another project in Sanchez (or Stafford for that matter). The only reason you trade JC is if there is another capable guy who can start right now and make your team better. That might have been Cutler. But now, I think you absolutely have to stick with Campbell. mrreddman 04-16-2009, 12:30 AM It seems clear that The FO does not think JC is the man. The mere fact that they didn't offer him a contract should be concern enough. They pay and overpay everybody they like and JC hasn't been offered nothing. Not that I blame them, but that's just not the skins M.O. They tried to trade for Cutler and floated JC's name in separate trade talks for a 2nd rounder? Then spoke with JC and told him your our man. And now they are working out Sanchez. Sadly it does appear that the skins are trying desperately to make a change at QB. I would just much rather let JC have at last this year to show what he can do and if it doesn't work out, let him go and draft a top QB in next years beastly draft. Lotus 04-16-2009, 12:37 AM A badass DE like who? All the big time DE's in the draft are too small to play RDE for us. Ayers? Jackson? They have the size but dont overly excite me either, especially at #13. I think it is a little easier said than done just to run wide on AH at DE....and that's what our LB(whoever he may be), Landry and Horton are for....chase down them backs outside. Im sure Blatche is smart enough to devise a scheme to handle that. We have Andre Carter to play RDE. We need a LDE. I am higher on Ayers than you are. Although I often disagree with him, Mayock said that when we look back three years from now, what we will see is that Ayers is the best defensive player in this draft. He could (repeat: could) be right. Horton is not primary run defense, he is run support. Landry will be of little use in your scenario since Blache plays him 30 yards off of the line. On wide plays you need a reasonably fast DE to either make the play or absorb the blocking so that the LB can make the play. If you have a slow DE, running teams like the Giants will just run around you all day long. And as much as I like AH, he makes for a slow DE. AH's natural habitat is on the inside. Except on mix-it-up pass rushing downs, I think it would reduce his overall contribution to make him play too much on the outside. GMScud 04-16-2009, 12:49 AM If for some reason Sanchez is still there at 13 (which I highly doubt), we'd be foolish to draft him, and even more foolish not to entertain the offers we'd get from other teams to move up to our spot. We could accumulate multiple picks and address not only OL, but OLB and possibly another DE all before the 4th round. But that's probably way too rational for us to do. Honestly though, the absolute latest I see Sanchez going is 10th to SF. The Goat 04-16-2009, 12:52 AM The million dollar question for me is when and why our FO utterly lost hope in JC? It defies logic. By the 2nd half of last season, when Jason's numbers plummeted, we easily had the worst offensive line in football. This unit was an embarrassment to football...defenders shot through the line within a split second of the snap, from center to right tackle there was practically zero run-blocking w/ Rabach getting manhandled, Thomas ailing and Heyer unable to find a defender to block. It was horrible. And the WR corp was among the worst 5 in football IMO. Just pitiful. So basically Jason's had little to nothing to work w/ and evidently from this Danny and Vinny can deduce his "real" potential. It's extremely suspicious in the first place our FO/coaches never acknowledged the dismal state of the offensive line. So again i'm starving for some inside information, even a hunch, about how and when the FO came to it's current mindset about our QB situation. GMScud 04-16-2009, 12:54 AM To be honest I'm not totally opposed to taking Sanchez, but to take a DB or RB in the 3rd round as well would just be overkill. At the very least if they had signed Ray Willis none of this would have been a problem. Right now though their best option if they choose not to draft a Tackle is to sign Kwame Harris and hope like hell that he can be developed. Disagree. I think we'll go RB at some point in this draft. We need a change of pace for Portis. We've got to give him 5 or so less carries per game this year for durability purposes, and Betts just isn't a good replacement at this point. Kory Sheets or Javon Ringer. Both would very solid additions. If only we had that 2nd and/or 4th rounder. |
