FlaRedskinsFan 03-21-2009, 07:02 AM State of the Redskins, huh ... let's see, it's March 21st ... the off-season workouts have begun ... the 'Skins have 4 picks in the upcoming draft ... and minimal Cap Room to work with ... and we are still somehow the media favorites to land Jay Cutler ... boy, some reputations die hard, if at all. Let's see ... 1) The interior of the D-Line has been seriously upgraded ... 2) The Linebacker corp is suspect ... 3) The Secondary could be one of the better ones around ... and one of the youngest 4) The Wide Receivers are still a giant ? 5) The Running game is still solid ... 6) The O-Line is still old ... 7) The QB is beginning his 2nd season in a new Offensive scheme ... again!! 8) The FO still amazes us with what they are able to do ... and not do ... every offseason ... Yep, sounds about right ... OK, now for a few somewhat serious observations / pronostications: 1) Get over the idea of Jay Cutler coming here ... it ain't happenin' ... we don't have the Cap flexibility to do it ... we're going with what we have. 2) My guess is, unless we trade down and pick up more picks, our draft will look something like: 1st - SOLB - it's where we need a starting-caliber young player the most ... 2nd - to Miami Dolphins (Jason Taylor) 3rd - LDE - it's where we need a starting-caliber young player the second most ... 4th - to New York Jets (Pete Kendall) 5th - OT - 'Skins will take a solid, but unspectacular, lineman here and groom him for a season ... 6th - Best O-Lineman still available ... 7th - to Minnesota Vikings (Erasmus James) Comp pick - Best Player Available for DL, LB or OL If anything, I just have this feeling that the moves we've been making are geared towards an uncapped year in '10 ... just a hunch ... then again, maybe flatulence ... HTTR !! Seems like they say that what hurt us was lack of offensive plays from qb, and wide recivers, now why im not saying thats set by no means, but a lot of that has to do with our oline. It broke down through the year cuz of age. That why i hope the skins go online, preferbly RT with 13, soooo untill we can improve an aging line and give campbell the fair shake at things before he gets all the blame yet. lol yeah i know this is the evergoing disscusion on here, but hey it the truth!!!!....i hope...i really want campbell to succed The Steelers OL sucked last season and Big Ben took a lot of hits but he also made a lot of plays when he had to make them, often with defenders all over him. That's life for an NFL QB. Sometimes, he just needs to make a play, no matter what. I haven't seen much of that from JC. Actually, I think he's a piss-poor performer in the Red Zone. Yes, I know he needs help. Yadda, yadda, yadda. Again, sometimes an NFL QB just needs to make a play. As much as I want JC to succeed, I'm glad this is his contract year and that he hasn't been extended. It's time for him to make his move if he's going to do it. Jason will either establish himself this season or you can bet the mortgage money that he'll be gone. redskingrove 03-21-2009, 11:04 AM The Redskins will look for an OT to fall to the 13th pick and will select him. Should no elite OT fall that far, They should take A. Mack at C. He can also play G as backup. They should trade some of their remaining picks to get a high second rounder and look to get OT Britton or Loadholt to solidify the o-line. Any QB, elite or not needs time to execute any play. Given adequate protection, Campbell could be a good QB. Our defense was in the top tiers last year so there is no need to further stack the deck on that side of the ball. Defense means nothing if the offense can't capitalize on the defenses production. As for a LB to round out the defense, go to free agency for a suitable backup. Remember, we are cap restrained, and have little wiggle room for trade down mass signings of players. Daseal 03-21-2009, 11:25 AM The Steelers OL sucked last season and Big Ben took a lot of hits but he also made a lot of plays when he had to make them, often with defenders all over him. His line certainly didn't play spectacular -- but many of Ben's sacks were his own fault. He held the ball forever. Sometimes that led to some big plays, sometimes it led to some weak play. The last thing I want Campbell doing is holding the ball forever. rypper11 03-21-2009, 11:59 AM His line certainly didn't play spectacular -- but many of Ben's sacks were his own fault. He held the ball forever. Sometimes that led to some big plays, sometimes it led to some weak play. The last thing I want Campbell doing is holding the ball forever. Why is it rarely brought up that he does hold the ball too often? Especially in the first Giants game (ugly loss) and in the last 4 games of the season when his confidence was shot. I'm not saying that the OLine is great, but they are average and they seem to do a good job run blocking. I think that the upgrades on defense (provided we still get a solid OLB) will create more game-changing turnovers and shorter fields for the offense. SFREDSKIN 03-21-2009, 01:05 PM Those guys were partially right, especially on the D hall signing. We could have kept Springs, brought in Leigh Bodden instead of signing Hall and had money to upgrade other positions that still haven't been addressed. Instead NE signed both of those guys, they win SB's because they know how pick good players at a reasonable price. |
