My biggest concern w/ trading out of the 13th overall is missing out on true 1st round talent. My biggest fear going into the draft is Vinny trading out of the 1st round completely... if this is the only trade scenario available we ought to stay at 13 IMO.
True that...
If we move out of the top 15 it will be harder to find someone who can start and make a difference at the position. We know all too well that talent after the 1st round can take some time to develop.
We need a starter so we're almost relegated to picking at 13th overall to find someone to make an impact.

SO at that point who would be the players available that would make the biggest impact this season?

Any of the OL at the top of the draft could make a play to start over Jansen and Heyer. That's where the impact on our team could be made....and OLB.

I think I'd like to see us trade down to later in the first if possible. Of course it takes two to dance and we'd need to get another pick that could give us starter level talent. To me a later 1 and 3 could offer us two picks to get starters and if we evaluate talent well then there's a good chance that an OLinemen we take with one of them would be better than one of the "top" ones we are looking at now. If we could trade down to the low 20's maybe Mack is there and then we can take a more project like RT in the 3rd?Like the idea, but if we're going to spend a pick on a guy who is viewed as more of a project (i.e. not as good), better make it someone who will eventually step in for Samuels at LT.

It's probably too risky if the Skins expect to get a starter in a position of need in the 1st Round. We're lucky to be at #13 because there won't be many "sure things" beyond that point.
You are talking about dropping 7 or 8 slots. That's a lot when you consider that some of the intervening teams have similar needs to our own.
There are no "sure things". I would venture a guess that linemen in the later part of the first round are as successful as those taken in the teens on average. Tripp could probably speka more to that. It's not like there is no talent past the top 15. There are probably 4 or 5 pro bowlers in the second half of the 1st and on. Historically that is.

True that. Even the best personnel men draft a bit above 50%, so there are no sure things and more picks in a draft gives a better shot at making picks which pan out. People sometimes forget that the draft is something like a game of chance because there is so much which cannot be predicted.
You are right that there should be presumable starting talent throughout the first round. There still should be a tackle, DE, or LB who can start soon who will be available late in the first round. With a trade-added #2 pick, in a lucky draft year we pick up a good player who can start in his first or second year as well.

I've been looking at trading with NE and the possibilities are endless. They have 12 picks this year, 3 in the second round. There has been some talk of NE wanting to trade up. I believe it's Mr. Maualuga they seek. No.1 I would try to find out for sure who it is they covet and then immediately let word leak out that that's who we're looking for at #13. According to the value chart these are some of the realistic trades that could be made. Keep in mind that NE has 3 second round picks and 12 all together.
Wash. Picks #13-#150-#186
NE. Picks #23-#47
Wash. Picks #13
NE. Picks #23-#58-#124-#170

Ne. Picks #23-#58-#97

Wash. Picks #13
NE. Picks #34-#47-#89-#199
Wash. Picks #13
NE. Picks #34-#58-#89-#97-#199
There are more combinations and any would be possible depending on NE's desire to trade up.

I like the option of getting 34, 47, 89 & 199. It would give us 2 second round and 2 third round picks. This would give us the opportunity to find potential starters and build depth. NE would be a great potential trade partner. Good post.

Thanks. I also like 1 and 3 because, being a fan of drafting Alex Mack, we could get him and a high quality OLB/DE and/or OT. Of course I agree with what you're saying also, 2 seconds and 2 thirds would give us some good opportunities to get more numbers of quality players.
