325 lbs. is the lightest Smith's been in a while

Outland Trophy winner Andre Smith works out for NFL teams - ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft09/news/story?id=3971535)

But here's one anonymous source who thought he was ok

What to do if Alabama OT Andre Smith drops in draft ... - Inside the Bears (http://blogs.suntimes.com/bears/2009/03/what_to_do_if_alabama_ot_andre.html)

I don't know how many people are calling him a God, but plenty who have actually watched him play in games think he has the potential to be a dominant RG or RT

Well I feel better knowing that Samuals put up only 19 reps. I don't remember who said it but I once heard that until you have to bench press 225 at midfield to win the game the Bench Press will only mean so much especially when you compare it to on field production which Smith has plenty of. And while someone said earlier that we should have learned from Davis and Kelly well while I agree partially the fact remains that I think Smith is different especially since he plays a position thats a lot easier to project at the next level. Personally I'm releshing in how much Smith is falling.

Considering our need at RT, LB, and DE, i dont see how anyone could justify drafting a CENTER at 13. Would he be an upgrade over Rabach? Sure? But Center is probably our 6th or 7th greatest need at this point and we would be fools to take a center so high. Not only would it be a huge reach to take him that High, but it wouldnt even be filling a major need.

I understand what you're saying BHA but Mack WOULD make our line better in a big way. I see you did'nt have receiver as a need. If a young Jerry Rice were available would you take him anyway or pass him up?

Here is my ideal scenario in the draft involving Smith.

Trade down with Detroit giving up the 13th pick for the 20th and 33rd. If Sanchez is still on the board we may be able to pull this off.

Trade Betts, our 6th rounder and a conditional 3rd or 4th rounder in 2010 with Denver for the 48th pick.

20th - Brian Cushing OLB USC

33rd - Michael Johnson DE GT

48th - Andre Smith OT Ala

80th - Eric Wood C UL

142nd - Cedric Peerman RB UVA

I realize that the chances of this happening are slim to none but can't a man dream a little!

You'd only take a Center at No. 13 if you were absoultely confident that he would start on day one and would not need competition for the next five years, obviously. Equally obviously, if you could get a franchise type tackle that fits all the same critera, you'd pass on the Center for the tackle.

But if you are comparing a flawed Tackle prospect to an ideal Center prospect, you'd obviously go with the Center. It's just a big whos' available game.

I'd take either Smith or Oher at that spot, if either one is available. With OTs being a position of need for most of the teams picking before the redskins (BTW- I believe this is the reason why those teams are picking at the top of the order), that would probably only leave one of them available at 13.

From the games and videos that I have seen with Smith, he appears to be the most physical OT in the draft - even if he didn't display this in his workouts. My only question mark about him (and it's a big question mark) is that he's coming from a run-first system and there's not enough to go by to see if he's also as good in pass protection. But yeah even with this, he's a football player. I'm not paying attention to all the concerns about his pro day showing and his leaving the combine - the redskins would be lucky to snatch him up if he falls this far down.

If Smith or Oher weren't available at 13, then I like Cushing or Maualuga, or maybe even one of the top DEs (not seen enough film to know who though, just liked group of DEs they highlighted on tv the other day).

Warren Sapp.

Damn thats good. Times like this where I wish we kept the rep system though we're probably better off without it.

to me Oher and Smith are not worth our pick at 13. We should trade down and draft A. Mack, get a 2nd and select Maybin or Robert Ayers (DE). In the 3rd round we should take Herman Johnson OG from LSU 6'6 345. This kid Johnson is a freakin truck!!

I dont want to take Smith now with the 13th pick, i read about his pro day today, and from what the scouts are saying it was a disaster. he was way overweigth, ran like 5.26 40 time, and was just poorous overall in most of the drills they did. I do not want someone who apparently dose not seem to be committed to football on our team.

So does anyone remember when was the last time the Redskins drafted a player that they were projected to draft?
