OP makes it sound like "Over the Hill Gang" was bad, some of the skin's best years were during this time. Nothing wrong with having ton of older players on team, ask the patriots bout that.
Redskins may sign Daniels and Wynn?Zerohero 03-09-2009, 04:14 PM OP makes it sound like "Over the Hill Gang" was bad, some of the skin's best years were during this time. GMScud 03-09-2009, 04:24 PM I'm all for stockpiling bodies on the lines, but both of these guys are 35+, and injury is a concern with Daniels. A 36 year old coming off knee reconstruction doesn't exactly give me the warm and fuzzies. If we do sign Wynn, I could see him getting cut if Wilson/Buzbee/Rob Jackson step up in OTAs/training camp. I still think we should have made it a higher priority to bring back Demetric Evans. Gibbs hired older players all the time because they were smarter and knew how to get the job done and wouldn't make mental mistakes. Funny how the "Over the hill gang" was actually the hogs when the Skins went to the SB's. Someone mentioned in the Elway thread that after Gibbs left so did all his linemen and that had Gibbs been able to aquire Elway he probably would have stayed and the linemen. I think it's totally wrong. Gibbs left cause he was burnt out, plus the CAP was going to be implimented. There were alot of questions about what the CAP was going to do to teams and coach's. I don't think Gibbs agreed with the CAP and felt it would hinder coach's and he didn't want to be apart of it. Having said all that.....the linemen were old. Gibbs would have had to start a new with the lines which with the CAP would have created a problem. Although my arguement may be garbage considering Norv stepped in shortly after and started making changes which kept us at the top of our division and into the playoffs a couple of time only to not get to the SB. Wow, Norv has not changed. lol. NoviSkins 03-09-2009, 04:52 PM Demetric Evans was a young, versatile option to plug in all over the D-line. Ya, probably should have kept him. How do you feel about Kenechi Udeze? 53Fan 03-09-2009, 05:10 PM People seem to forget that Evans could'nt beat out Daniels for the starting job. Being younger is great. Being younger and not as good, not so great. CRedskinsRule 03-09-2009, 05:12 PM How do you feel about Kenechi Udeze? Gesundheit! GMScud 03-09-2009, 05:41 PM How do you feel about Kenechi Udeze? If his leukemia is in full remission, I'd love to have him. Isn't he under contract with Minnesota through 2009 though? SmootSmack 03-09-2009, 05:43 PM Yes, but there's some talk that he may be let go. He's reportedly doing really well and is ready to go. Just may not end up making the final roster in Minnesota. I don't think they'll let him go until after minicamp at least though. Nothing wrong with having ton of older players on team, ask the patriots bout that. The original "Over the Hill Gang" was good because we hadn't made the playoffs in a long time before they came here and we did after they came here. Daniels and Wynn were here before and we didn't make the playoffs with them. So, the more recent edition of the gang ( which now includes Jansen, Randy Thomas, et. al.) is not good because we haven't made the playoffs with them. And, yes, my definition of good is making the playoffs. So the question I would like to ask the front office is "What is your personnel plan to help this team make the playoffs"? If their plan is to start most of the same people who couldn't get it done before and then bring in a few more (Daniels, Wynn, and Dockery) who also couldn't get it done before in Washington, then why wouldn't I have reason to question their actions? Do you really think that adding one great DT will get us there? I don't. |
