KI Skins Fan 03-04-2009, 11:28 AM Of course to me money is not everything either...It's the only thing.
"Money isn't everything but it's way ahead of whatever is in Second Place."
BigHairedAristocrat 03-04-2009, 11:32 AM taylor obviously didnt want to play here and we obviously didnt want him back. this worked out well for both sides... except for the draft picks we dont have of course.
Give it time....
JT in Survivor.......Detroit
JT v Hulk Hogan....Extreme cage fighting
JT on the Red Carpet.......
Warren85Ellard 03-04-2009, 11:52 AM Jason Taylor and Brian Bosworth to star in Stone Cold 4?
Bill B 03-04-2009, 11:52 AM There has to be more to this story. All I know is it saves alot of money in cap space. Now the question is:how will they use it? D. Evans is the first place to start. Hopefully, they get that done and then look for more depth, O Line,LB, Punter.... the list goes on and on. Looks like we needed cap space more than everyone might think...
What about possibly resigning Jason Campbell? Lets say Jason Campbell has an incredible first half of the year - wouldn't it be better for the Skins to use whatever they have left in 2009 CAP space and apply it to resigning their qb? Now if Campbell does bad I think it will probably be the end of his era here - but if he does great I would think it would be in the Skins best interest to use the leftover 2009 cap space on the qb - especially when our future cap years are going to be eaten up by letting go of the massive contracts of older players in dead cap money and release fees. Now of course maybe the Skins are betting on the salary cap going away next year - but if it doesn't I think you got to use it on Jason Campbell if he does well and is your qb of the next 5-10 years.
SmootSmack 03-04-2009, 11:55 AM The whole thing is just weird to me. On the one hand, I can see where Taylor is coming from in terms of "hey we made an agreement before I was traded, my deal stays exactly the same for two years."
And then you have these comments by Cerrato, that make you say "WTF??" He's basically saying he's expecting to be able to make JT do what Parcells couldn't.
"We felt like to get the best out of him, because he didn't work out all last year, because he was doing dancing" they needed him to be at the complex, Cerrato said. "And that's what Bill had the problem with, because he wasn't in [Miami's] offseason program. We just wanted to get him in shape to make sure that he was in shape."
Cornerback Shawn Springs, released last Friday in a salary-cap move, did not participate in the workout program at the complex, preferring to train in Arizona. "People say, 'What about Shawn Springs?' But Shawn went to Arizona to work out, not at his home. He [Taylor] just wanted to stay home with his kids."
This is kinda like Larry Centers all over again. My guess is that Zorn (and/or maybe Blache) pushed for this (I think it's also in Hall's and Haynesworth's new contracts), and Cerrato was probably lukewarm about it. But I'm a bit surprised VC is surprised Taylor turned it down.
But, as I've said before, I have a hard time believing it was only about this workout clause. There had to be more to it.

I agree. From JT's standpoint, he's most likely saying, hey look we had a deal last year, why are we trying to change the contract? What's changed since then? I'm sure these things were talked about last year. Well, who knows actually.
From the VC standpoint...what d hell? You are suprised? Why did you cost us 2 draft picks last year for a 1 year guy? Wasteful if you ask me.
VC basically sais JT is not working out. I highly doubt this is true. You can spend time at home and work out. It's almost like another smear campaign...allegedly. VC would never do something like that (cough...gregg williams...cough...spags...etc).
SmootSmack 03-04-2009, 12:10 PM I don't think this is a smear campaign (I also don't think there was one against Williams, people just thought there'd be one but this thread ain't about that).
I think this is simple ignorance (or arrogance) on Cerrato's part. Actually, I think he and Zorn/Blache had different ideas on Taylor and his future with the Redskins (one side thought he shouldn't have one, or at the very least he should work for it), Snyder overruled VC and now Vinny has to scramble to stay in lockstep with the organization's stance.

I think its pretty clear that we didnt want Taylor in 2009 and he didnt want to be here. This arrangement allows both sides to save face - The skins get to look like they wanted Taylor here with his teammates and Taylor gets to take the high road with wanting to be with his family. The skins have a legitimate excuse to cut Taylor, and Taylor doesnt have to suffer the disgrace of being cut for his performance.
SFREDSKIN 03-04-2009, 12:15 PM Being the father of 3 young children I can see JT point of view, but at the same time as Cooley mentioned; 1 year for 9Mil? Time would fly by and you can take that money to the bank. Maybe JT is so loaded, that 9Mil is not shit to him or he misses his kids and banging his wife (she's hot).
