The key in this is to find out how much cap space we have now and how many moves we will be able to make.

This cut could mean 1,2 or 3 more FA signings......who knows?

I was just about to post this. I don't think it's as simple as he was refusing to work out. They'd been trying all weekend to come to an agreement on a new extended deal heavy on bonuses that would be voidable after this upcoming season.

i agree. I cant see JT walking away from 8M dollars and he had to have been happy with the Haynesworth signing... his agent must have a better offer from another team. perhaps new england? he'd be much cheaper than Peppers.

So how much money did we actually save in the cap?

$8.5 million.

We now have $12.3 million at our disposal.

As unproductive as he was for us, I don't think this is a good move. Jason Taylor was hurt all year and playing on the wrong side of the line. I think if we gave him another shot and put him on the proper side we would have seen more production. I understand that 8.5 million is a lot to pay a guy who only had 3.5 sacks. However, we are now SUPER thin at DE. Do we sign someone, resign Taylor at a lower price, or draft a new DE?

Maybe we can develop Jackson?? He showed some pass rush ability last year in pre season so maybe he'll take a step up. I'm not saying he should be the starter but maybe bring back Evans, I guess they're bringing back Daniels and keep Jackson in the mix. That's 3 guys that can play that position. No need to bring back Taylor at 8.5 mil.

With that cap space we could make at least a couple more moves, correct Schneed?

Resigning Evans should be a top priority.

that could be a good thing, but at this point, there arent ANY really good DE or OT prospects on the open market. There a few value LB guys out there, but no one good enough that it would require cutting Taylor. We've just created another hole to fill with one of our 4 draft picks.

i agree 8.5 is too high to bring back Taylor. I just hope the Front Office makes 2-3 quality moves the remaining money we have under the cap.

I suggest:
1 - One Linebacker through FA
2 - One DE through the Draft
3 - One O-Lineman through FA
4 - A DAMN KICKER!

Thoughts?

I like this move provided we GUN HARD for the top OL free agents available.

Jason Brown has already signed so we need to scoop up the residual OL talent available. We also need two DE's now that Taylor is gone. I would have said one if we didn't get rid of him.

Did the tackle from Seattle get signed already?
