Redskins' Allergy to Cap Space Means More Moves on Horizon - Hog Heaven (http://redskinshogheaven.com/2009/03/redskins-allergy-to-cap-space-means-more-moves-on-horizon.html)
(!)
The Skins won the division in '99, the first season with Snyder on board. Granted he wasn't involved with any personnel moves that year but I think it counts as a division title under his reign.
I support the idea of signing Crowell and Willis. I would also sign Hunter Smith.

At this point we would be fools not to sign Hunter. For those of us that know the importance of consistant good field position.(I assume every Warpather does) Hunter is a no brainer
CRedskinsRule 03-03-2009, 09:42 AM Why? Last years stats look fairly similar to me, and Evans would come for half the $.
Chris Canty 6ft7in 304lbs Age:26
YEAR TEAM G TOT SOLO AST PD SACK FF
2005 DAL 16 35 23 12 0 2.5 1
2006 DAL 16 33 24 9 1 1.0 0
2007 DAL 16 43 30 13 2 3.5 0
2008 DAL 16 37 25 12 5 3.0 0
Demetric Evans 6ft4in 293lbs Age:29
YEAR TEAM G TOT SOLO AST PD SACK FF
2001 DAL 16 23 19 4 2 1.0 0
2002 DAL 4 2 1 1 0 0.0 1
2004 WAS 12 26 17 9 1 2.5 0
2005 WAS 16 22 17 5 2 3.0 0
2006 WAS 16 16 14 2 1 2.0 1
2007 WAS 16 25 18 7 3 1.0 1
2008 WAS 16 33 20 13 2 3.5 0
I really dont see why some people got so excited about Canty. He had a decent year(in a 3-4), but thats alot of money for a guy with 10 career sacks.
:goodjob: and :welcome:
I agree about Canty. I am glad we didn't get him.

They haven't done squat to help the offense* (which was the problem last year btw...) so we need a good punter. Hell at this point, I would say he would be the team MVP next year. We need an advantage for those 13-10 games that we are going to see every week.
* Sorry that I don't think Dockery is going to magically turn into the next Larry Allen now that he is back. In fact, I vividly remember our goal line offense struggling big time in his first go around.
BigHairedAristocrat 03-03-2009, 10:18 AM Now that we have cap space, I think we need to resign Evans and investigate resigning Washington for a cheap deal. I'd even talk to Springs and see what it wouuld take to bring him back to play free safety. There are no OTs out there worth signing, so unless Heyer looks like a stud, we may be locked into signing one with our first round pick.

Other than pursuing every option we can to see if it will improve our offensive line, i dont think we need to do that much to our offense. Thomas, Davis, and Kelly should all be improved in their 2nd year. One would hope Campbell would be more comfortable in the system and everyone on our offense (including coaches) should be improved in their 2nd season. Yes, players didnt play up to expectations last year, but Zorn was horrible at playcalling. Our offense should be improved somewhat simply by the fact that everyone will have been in the system a full year.
We did alot to help our offense last year, while we neglected our defense. It makes sense to be focusing our efforts on our defense now.

Willis at least started games for an NFL team last year. Just having him on our team would provide depth on our OL.
We can't be picky about how he's not a former 1st round pick at this point. We are in dire need of depth on OL. If he can start for the Seahawks then he certainly can help our offense out.
As if our offensive line is so great that we need to be turning away warm bodies that started for other NFL teams. If you recall last year's performances on offense I'm sure you wouldn't kick Willis out of bed.

I agree with Evans.
You're not a fan of Willis from Seattle for right tackle?

The defense was 4th in the league. The offense couldn't bust a grape. Bill Walsh's playcalling would have been lousy the way the line crumbled last year. I don't know how you can criticize playcalling when they barely had time to complete a three step drop.

Willis started games but so did Heyer and so did Jansen. Starting games doesnt mean anything. Theres tons of players in this league who have "started games."
Nothing i have seen or read about Willis gives even the slightest inkling he would be an upgrade over what we have. We don't need depth at OT. We need a starter. We can only carry so many OTs on our roster and if we add someone, it needs to be someone who provides a clear upgrade at the position. Willis is just another teams Stephon Heyer. Nothing more, nothing less. We don't need another backup.
