Another Haynesworth Thread: Will AH Be The Next Dana Stubblefield?

How about we keep this negative shit outta hear and just let big Al be the beast he is.

about Gardener: We didnt throw the money at him and I believe he was out of the league within a couple of years of his stint with washington... am I mistaken? What if we would have given him the contract he wanted?

Not that he sucked when he was here, but I was just thinking about high priced D linemen that got paid and disappeared off the face of the planet. I could probably think of other examples but my brain is fried.

Of course AH has different circumstances, but I think the comparison is inevitable if only because they played the same position, both coming off huge seasons,etc.

But here's something I think people are falsely analogizing; please correct me if I'm wrong, but Snyder didn't sign Stubby. The mgmt. of the Skins is different now, and though they've had a history of fa busts, in the last 2 seasons they've shown much greater judgment w/the fa's they've signed.

In addition, Stubby played for Norvelle, AH will be playing for Zorn & Blatche.

btw, I wasn't happy w/the signing, but I'm trying to look at the positives & in response to this thread, D. Stubby isn't the reason I don't like the signing. It's AH's history & the obvious cost & risk involved. I feel the money could've been much better used if we signed several mid level fa's. But now that he's here, I hope he's out there stompin heads for 16 games+ playoffs every year! (figuratively of course :) )

He had degenerative back issues if you remember that made signing him to a long term deal pretty risky. The Skins passed and the Broncos took the bait. He was injured most of his first year with them in 2003 and out of football for good in 2004, due to his back.

Personally, I love the Haynesworth signing. And I've made my feelings known about the huge contract he received - it doesn't bother me one iota. But what I am leary about, which has been an undeniable trend here in Washington, we rarely get full contract value for the big name studs we bring here. So on one hand, I'm not concerned about the actual dollars he received, but on the other our history with these types of signings haven't produced stellar results.

Will the huge contract be a demotivator for Haynesworth? Will all of this end up being Dana Stubblefield all over again? Redskins nation had similiar high hopes after we signed Stubblefield and paired him up with Big Daddy Wilkerson. Stubblefield never returned to his highly touted Pro Bowl form as a Washington Redskin. Ultimately Stubblefield left the Skins, only to return to the bay area to play for the 49ers again, then the Raiders before being released by the New England Patriots in 2004. That being said, I think Haynesworth has Reggie White type potential and will ultimately live up to it. But I have my doubts.

I want you guys to weigh in on this.

I don't think he's going to live up to his contract. I hope he does but history shows this isn't going to work out. I was reading an article about AH in The Post today and this guy has some issues. No way in hell am I paying a guy that much money unless I know I can 100% count on him. He has or had some anger issues where he's kicking and stomping on guys, fighting with teammates in practice, not playing the scheme of the defense, not listening to coaches....way too many red flags but our FO doesn't seem to care.

Stubblefield was on the juice right? He was part of the BALCO scandal. I think Albert is just naturally a monster!

I strongly disagree kind of. It certainly does'nt help with the mental part of the game which Stubblefield possessed. But It definatly helps when it comes to the physical aspect of the game. Lets just say I know from experience. Oh ah, It helps in Baseball too:)
