GTripp0012 02-27-2009, 02:43 PM So will it be Dockery, Willis, Brown, or Stinchcomb?1) Brown
2) Dockery
3) Willis
4) Stinchcomb
in that order.
I can't imagine we have the money to chase two of those guys. I have to imagine that our overall cap number is somewhere in the realm of 6 million right now...the amount freed up by releasing Springs.
So considering, the effects of the rookie pool will be about half that, I sense one signing on the OL coming.
skinsfan69 02-27-2009, 02:45 PM For 2009, we would have been better off with Rogers/Springs/Smoot than with Rogers/Hall/Smoot, but this move makes sense for the future of the team.
However, the Haynesworth move makes sense for the present state of the team. As does keeping Jason Taylor. So I guess my question is, do we actually have a big picture plan? Are we doing everything we can to win in 2009, or beyond? Or are we just acting because we discovered we had some cap space?
How? Are you saying Springs and his injuries/games missed are better than Hall? I hate to see Springs leave but it was time. He no longer can stay on the field.
dmek25 02-27-2009, 02:46 PM Guess they didn't pull off any trade. Like I said, my source on that was very weak that's why I asked if anyone else heard it.
Springs got a bad rap here, I'll miss him.
how so? everyone is in agreement that Springs was our best cover corner. he just could not play enough. sometimes that happens with age :(
SmootSmack 02-27-2009, 02:52 PM Everyone was in agreement? I don't think so, I think there are a lot of people here that thought he was an overrated, heartless, selfish wimp

youre probably referring to me with that comment... i didnt go quite that far, but i certainly think he was a different player after the 2007 season. we'll see how he plays for the cowboys. with any luck, Springs will get a papercut the first washington-dallas game and go on IR.
SmootSmack 02-27-2009, 03:03 PM Referring to a lot of people who thought of him as at least one of those things

He no longer can stay on the field.Springs is just the better player of the two. But he wouldn't have been here past 2009 anyway. Plus, Hall's still developing (we can only hope...), and Springs started to show signs of decline for the first time in his career this year.
Rogers and Springs are a better tandem than Rogers and Hall. But without Hall, there's the risk that we could be talking about Rogers and Smoot, and that's kind of a disaster.
SBXVII 02-27-2009, 03:53 PM I think we learned what Seattle was trying to tell us when we first signed him. He's a great CB when healthy. but we needed full time employees not part time every year on full time pay.
RedskinPete 02-27-2009, 05:10 PM I think we learned what Seattle was trying to tell us when we first signed him. He's a great CB when healthy. but we needed full time employees not part time every year on full time pay. Not coming to OTA's and staying away from Redskin Park last spring may have help him out the door. If he goes to Dallas he will fit in with that kind of team commitment!
tryfuhl 02-27-2009, 10:33 PM Springs is on ESPN980 now. He's making jokes about everything and seems to be in good spirits. he said he wasnt surprised by the move. I'll update this post with anything of consequence he says:
He is excited for the Redskins.
He spoke with Zorn, Gray, and Cerrato this morning and thanked them for the opportunity to play in his hometown.
Springs wants to win a superbowl. He saw former skins like Ryan Clark win superbowls and he wants the chance to be on a winning team.
He has 4-5 teams pursuing him right now. He was surprised so many were interested.
Doc thinks Springs is going to Philly. Springs says he knows one thing - he knows he's never going anywhere else again that doesnt put pressure on the QB.
Thinks the skins will be really good now. He says Andre Carter needs to step up and move back to RE. He thinks having Carlos, Hall, and Smoot in the secondary is really good for us.
Jerry Grey is a great coach because he doesnt sugar-coat things. He lays out a plan, tells players to execute, and makes them do it.
Doc says he can't stand it if Springs goes to Dallas. Springs tried to argue that they accepted Deon after he was in Washington so they should accept him if he goes to Dalls.
Springs jokingly said "ahright, i wont go to Dallas." Doc gave Springs permission to go to New York and Philly. Springs countered by saying Jason Campbell better hope he never plays against him because he knows the offense inside and out.
Springs ended the interview by saying he didnt want Doc and Frank to harrass him when they find out where he goes...
As always, Springs proved to be thoroughly entertaining. The dude seriously has a job on the radio after his playing career is up... but its not time for that just yet. I'm about 90% sure he'll be a Dallas Cowboy.
Glad to hear he was in good spirits. When he played, he played, that's for sure.
