Why does everyone love Canty so much? He barely did anything in Dallas. Carter is better than Canty.

Canty might not have the pretty sack numbers but that could easily change in a 4-3 where he wouldn't be as occupied with taking on blocks, and he's very stout against the run.

I guess I just figured we would be letting Springs go cause we signed Hall and Canty was a move that might be replacing Taylor or taking up Springs money.

I think we could have (and wanted to) keep Springs around if he would have restructrured like everyone else over 30 on our roster. He refused to take any kind of pay cut. I seriously doubt he finds $6M per year anywhere else.

There's a difference between a restructure and a pay cut. Redskins had wanted Springs to take a straight cut.

I understand that. I guess I'm just kind of confused. We've restructured older, oft-injured players (Griffin most recently) in the past to help lessen our immediate salary cap issues. I guess I just don't understand why we never went that route with Springs. Is he not more valuable to the defense when healthy than Griffin?

I'd say if we didn't resign Hall he would be more valuable but right now he's kind of a redundant player. Hall brings the same skill set, size and better playmaking ability but he's 9 years younger. If we didn't have Horton I could see us restructuring and extending Springs as our starting safety but we don't really have a fit for him.

I just think you might as well just resign Evans if you want a player like that. Yeah, Canty is a little younger, but he would be more of a gamble because he's never played in the 4-3 and we probably would have had to pay him more.

But none of this even matters anymore because we're not getting him anyway.

I hear what you're saying. I wasn't suggesting we should have kept Springs for 2009, I was just kind of wondering why we never took the restructure route with him considering the past two season his cap # has been an issue.

I know the Giants value DL depth above all else, but where in the world would he play in that defense? Three-technique?
