Ruhskins 02-27-2009, 11:28 AM My point is bringing in high priced FA's doesn't seem to translate into wins. Does it? Yes, but you were criticizing the defensive players on those teams, and my point that the defensive players were not the reason those teams lost. And well Favre was sort of a FA acquisition, but you were not talking about him or any offensive players. SmootSmack 02-27-2009, 11:31 AM Wikinson had two good years with us, and put up some really good numbers in his first year. His numbers were not the same the next two and had a bad final year with us. Year Tkls/Solo/Sacks/FF 1998 44/38/7.5/0 1999 32/23/8.0/1 2000 21/16/3.5/0 2001 25/19/4/0 2002 16/12/0/0 Glad you posted this. DW gets a bit of a bad rep. The other thing about Wilkinson is his presence instead helped Kenard Lang get like 7 sacks a year for '98 and '99. SmootSmack 02-27-2009, 11:32 AM Did he make the players around him better? Why does he already want out after one year? Because Mangini is an ass BigHairedAristocrat 02-27-2009, 11:32 AM Last off-season we were in a situation where we unexpectedly had to search for a new coach, none of the free agents really appealed to us, and we had a heavy dosage of draft picks. This year, unless we are able to pull off trades (anyone else hearing that Springs is going to Houston for the Texans' 4th rounder they just from Minnesota? Got a weak source on that one) we have to look at free agency. If true, that would be a great deal for a number of reasons: 1) We would be getting a much needed draft pick at a round certain to yield us a good special teams player at minimum. 2) If we couldnt trade him, we'd have to cut him and get nothing in return. 3) I get the pleasure of knowing we screwed Springs over by making him play for the sorry texans. 4) The Texans get a player who would never in a million years come to them of his own free will 5) There arent as many stiff breezes in Houston, so theres less of a chance a 1 MPH wind will result in Springs being injured and inactive on gameday. 6) Springs will be much closer to his father and will have a shorter flight to visit him on the weeks he schedules his calf injuries. 7) Springs will be just a hop, skip, and jump away from his BFF Terrell Owens house. Instead of flying, he can just drive over to T.O.s crib and they can watch the playoffs together again. SmootSmack 02-27-2009, 11:33 AM Yup, heres a link to the podcast, i think this must have been done at 6AM or something. In case you cant listen to stuff like that at work, Cerrato also said he polled the defensive players and asked what they thought about Haynesworth and they were all in favor of getting him. He specifically mentioned talking with Fletcher and that Hall said, "go get the big guy." ESPN 980 Audio Vault - Play Now (http://www.stationcaster.com/player.php?s=65&c=427&f=22080) Thanks. I get paid to listen to stuff like this at work :) Skinny Tee 02-27-2009, 11:33 AM Wikinson had two good years with us, and put up some really good numbers in his first year. Our offense rolled us through the 2nd round of the playoffs in '99. Seriously though, that trade would make sense. firstdown 02-27-2009, 11:34 AM Well I don't know a bunch about these contracts but only 40 some million is guaranteed so he has to ern the rest if I'm reading that right. These guy's have ego's and most of these big deals never pay out close to what they sign for. I guess we will have to wait to see what the contract really is before coming to the conclusion about if we paid too much. It looks like we pay the bulk in the first couple of years so when his motor starts to run out we can get rid of him without a hugh hit. djnemo65 02-27-2009, 11:36 AM Thanks. I get paid to listen to stuff like this at work :) God, that idiot Cowherd is frothing at the mouth. He's claiming that we bat .100 on free agency moves. He is also claiming that we made huge splashes in free agency last year. Neither of those are remotely true. Why do you guys let him on the air? He doesn't know what he's talking about. |
