skinsfan_nn 02-27-2009, 01:40 AM So much for the hometown discount! This is alot of coin for a 7 game tryout CB that had just got cut by the Raiders.
IMO I'm on the fence with this one. Semi glad we have the youth, but wow that's an overpayment IMO.
Thoughts?

Hall returns to Skins with $54M deal
The Redskins reached an agreement Friday morning to keep cornerback DeAngelo Hall (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=5533), and made him one of the highest paid cornerbacks in football an NFL source said.
Hall accepted a six-year $54 million deal that included $22.5 million in guarantees. The payout of the deal includes $30 million over the first three years.
His agents -- Alvin Keels and Joel Segal -- were ready to explore the free agent market, but the Redskins stepped up and made an offer valued at $9 million per year. The Skins had been at $8.5 million earlier in negotiations, but apparent interest from other team forced Washington to up their offer.

I get the feeling that it was either paying a lot for Haynesworth or paying a lot for Hall. I rather pay a lot for Hall, he's young, lots of potential, already on the team, and paired with Rogers they make a sick CB tandem.
skinsfaninok 02-27-2009, 01:44 AM Young DB that is pretty good, I don't know if he's 10mill a year good, but he will help keep a good young DB corp in tact!! Now lets go get HAYNESWORTH! And our D will be a TOP 5 Defense again!
takethecake 02-27-2009, 01:45 AM I think I'm glad to have him- definitely appreciate the youth and ability. Hopefully he doesn't end up having any attitude problems, although I don't anticipate that happening. We may have ended up signing him to a bigger deal in order to keep his salary for THIS year lower, thus letting us sign other FAs. I guess we won't really know how much we like this deal until we know how it affects the rest of our FA hunt. All we have now is a rough outline of the deal, so we don't know exactly how much it counts against the cap for this year.
Although those of us who know much more about football than I can make some pretty good guesses...
Larry Michael is Satan 02-27-2009, 01:45 AM Large.

We're a top 5 d again w/ an upgrade at SLB and a healthy JT... i just think big Al isn't in the cards.

I like the tandem. I would think SS will get his walking papers ASAP.
But he's not worth that kinda coin/elite CB cash, IMO. But I'm not writing the checks clearly. I'll take a wait and see as if there where any other choice.
That Guy 02-27-2009, 01:48 AM his talent doesn't match it. it's about 50% too much money... but hey, that's what we do.
here's my projected breakdown:
year 1 2 3 4 5 6
SB 3.75 3.75 3.75 3.75 3.75 0.00
salary 2.50 3.25 4.23 5.50 7.14 9.28
which pays him 32.5mill in the first 3 years (report said 30mill+). and matches my pre-signing thoughts of 6.25mill for 2009 (NOT 4mill as suggested by others :P).
That Guy 02-27-2009, 01:52 AM oh yeah, technically we can still have 14-15mill free, so a 35mill SB 100mill 6 year deal for AH is still possible, though I don't think it'd be super wise, just because we wouldn't have any money left for other issues (if i were tampa, i'd have no problem with the deal, since they have lots of money to fix other things too). our cap situation just kinda sucks for free agency upgrades.
Swarley 02-27-2009, 01:56 AM My thinking is in general everyone is getting overpaid (damn you Tommy Kelly) and it's getting harder and harder to get a good bargain so I'm ok with it.
